Exactly! She has known Shawn the same amount of time as she has known Cory. You can't have one without the other two. They are a package deal. You either take all of them or none of them. Besides, she needs Shawn in her life. Who else is she going to go to when Cory drives her nuts? Who else would understand? She needs her venting buddy.

Aw, Shawn had a key to their apartment and Topanga didn't...until Cory agreed to give one to her, plus he confirmed that she has the key to his heart.

^ Exactly! That's why they are the perfect trio. They know each other very, very well, and when one of them drives their friend or significant other mad, the upset party can turn to their mutual friend to vent, to get advice or whatever else they need in the moment. I can imagine a lot of those kinds of moments between them. I love them but they aren't always the easiest people to be friends with.
