When I say "botch the job" I suppose I should've worded that differently. I don't mean botching up baby A. That would be horrible and I don't think they'd go there. I mean, mid-surgery, having a seizure or passing out (which is likely with brain tumors) and leaving Arizona hanging to fend for herself. Imagine, they've already cut open April and the uterus, fetus Avery is already exposed and ready for surgery.. and then, wham, there goes Hermann. I don't think it will be a case of Arizona telling the board/Jackson and April prior to the surgery and going at it alone. One.. Jackson is an Avery and would fly in the best of the best, not a fellow who has only been learning for a few months, to do the surgery, if he knew it was on Arizona's shoulders. Hermann isn't the ONLY fetal surgeon in the whole world. However, if he thinks Hermann is doing the surgery, and has no idea of her condition, I can see Jackson and April being more than okay with Hermann being their surgeon and proceeding as normal. That would make for WAY more drama, I think. Arizona coming clean prior to the surgery and offering the do it herself.. eh? Where's the drama in that, really? I mean, sure it would be pretty dramatic/exciting to see if Arizona could do it during the surgery.. but that only lasts for so long. She saves baby and then.. what? And as I stated above, I highly doubt Jackson and Catherine AVERY would be like okay, let's have this new wet behind the ears fellow do the surgery when we have the money to fly in the best of the best on the drop of a dime. I think Hermann will convince Arizona that she can do it and Arizona against her better judgement will go along with it, and then everything goes wrong in surgery and she's left to deal with the consequences.. remembering Hermann's notes (remember how she was ADAMANT that Arizona learn it word. for. word.) and proceeding on her own to save Baby A. Then, once Baby A/April is out of harms way, and it comes out that Arizona knew about Hermann's condition.. relationships will explode. Everyone will be pissed at Arizona and I think that could be a catalyst that draws Callie/Arizona back together. Callie will no doubt feel badly for her and be the one person on her side. At least, that's just my speculation of course, and where I see it possibly going. |

Yes, I like this speculation very much. I do think Arizona will be left to go at it alone too. Otherwise what would have been the point of Hermann stressing to her that she needed to learn it exactly the way she wrote it? I too think that there will be a blow up of all relationships including Japril and Arizona. I think you're right in that Callie will feel bad for her and will go crawling back to her side. __________________

There are so many ways it could go, really, but I feel like Hermann being unable to complete the surgery once they've already started is inevitable. The mention of migraines, the fact that they made is a point to have her tell Arizona if she tells anyone, everything goes out the window. So what happens then? Can Arizona do it alone? What if she can't and the end up having to deliver an extremely pre-term baby with an uncorrected deformation? Jeez, talk about heart-wrenching. In that case, it would fall on Alex's shoulders, right? He's basically the head peds attending and I sincerely doubt Jackson and April would want Arizona anywhere near their baby after everything. It was no coincidence that April was helping her good friend Arizona make jello molds to study with. If it goes down the way I think it will, poor April will feel so betrayed by Arizona.
My hope is that Arizona is able to fix the baby, probably comes down to the last second, but ultimately she is able to do it. And then the post-surgery drama lies within the relationships of the hospital. Jackson and April will no doubt feel betrayed by Arizona. I could see Catherine gunning for her medical license. Alex.. for some reason I think he'd be pretty upset with her as well. I do wonder what kind of medical problem the baby will have and if it will be necessary to have a cardiologist (Maggie) and a neurologist (Amy) in the operating room as well. They could help Arizona to complete the surgery. |

I kinda wish they had devoted a little more time to the April/Mama Kepner story last night because I didn't really get why April was acting the way she was. I thought the April/Jackson scene in the nursery was cute as was their scene in the hospital where he talked about how scared he was about becoming a father. __________________

A couple of things...
I too, see this as a scenario that plays out in the OR and gallery. Everything proceeding well until they get to the critical part of the surgery and Herman collapses. Everyone panics and Arizona, in that instant, with April open on the table, reveals Herman has a tumor. That's the drama. Everyone is shocked by Arizona's announcement and the fallout starts. Just imagine Arizona has got to proceed with the surgery because they are to far into it and the baby's life is at risk. Arizona an emotional wreak because of the anger she is facing from everyone around her by keeping the secret. Jackson left with no choice but to let the surgery continue. They are making a point of Arizona allowing Herman to continue to work even knowing the consequences of the danger she is putting patients in. The option for Jackson and April to find another surgeon has been basically taken away from them by Arizona keeping quiet. JC tweeted it is intense in 11x10 and to me that means it all unfolds in the middle of the procedure. Do or die, critical situation. One thing that we know, based on the winter premiere, we do not have to wait through a hiatus to see it unfold!!! Yippy. Arizona saving the baby may help to lessen the blow from April and Jackson, but there will be a fallout, you can bet on that. Especially if Arizona is involved in the consult leading up to the surgery and sees how torn Jackson and April are prior. No way April isn't going to hammer Arizona. Now Jackson on the other hand, even if the baby is fine in the end, will probably always hold resentment towards her. And Catherine?  watch out, Arizona.(assuming our speculation is true, of course, and this is the way it shakes out) |

Arizona freaking out and an emotional wreck trying to keep it together and save the baby. Everyone staring daggers at her like how dare you keep that a secret?! Alex torn between being pissed at Arizona and feeling sympathy for her.. Drama!!! |
