That is all I want to see, but I'm not seeing this coming.
If you see what EP and PD said in their interview, I think on US Today and I'm openly talking about this because I don't think is a spoiler and also because the links were posted in this thread, if you also see the spoilers (being foilers or not) and the announcements, I just can't see any nice future to them, not until this season 1st half or maybe Feb sweeps or even season 4. I know a lot of people read exactly the same things I did (there were positive and negative stuff) and have a different opinion, but I don't see any good future coming.
I think shonda changed her plans. She really wanted Derek to hoop up with Lexie but when she saw the viewers reaction she changed her mind. Maybe just about Lexie... maybe she will create a new Finn or a new Addie later in the season and just replace Lexie by another character. Maybe Derek can't handle this S&M and stop it and definitely breaks things up and then Mer finds someone like Viper who will easily be on this(SNM). She is not ready to have a relationship, it doesn't mean she is not ready to have 'fun'. The same to Derek... he wants a real commitment, a serious relationship. He loves Mer but if she can't give him for how long is he supposed to wait? What if a beautiful, inteligent woman, at his age, who may be interested on him and interested on have a family shows up? What will he do, keep his love to Mer who can't give him what he wants forever? I don't see it coming. I don't see at all.
I think shonda's original plans were keeping they apart this season (who knows how many seasons), as the viewers didn't accept Lexie I think she is doing this S&M to get the viewers back and then in some episodes, broke them again and cheat on us
