There were not fractures, just short femur and de mineralized skull...at least I didn't hear fracture.

I watched it twice and did not hear them say April's baby already had fractures. When Hermann was quizzing Arizona on the condition, she said "more fatal cases show fractures already in utero" or something to that effect, but it was certainly not made clear that April's baby had fractures. That was not a symptom Arizona listed for Baby A when Hermann asked why she thought that. But I could be wrong.

Hermann asked Arizona why she thought Baby A had OI. She said.. size and mineralization of the head (could be a number of things), short femurs (also could be a number of things), no fetal movement (wtf, okay, let's use common sense. Baby's sleep. Stephanie's ultrasound was literally 30 seconds long. So, no), and not having any growth (also could be a number of things).

Hermann then quizzed Arizona on the condition, overall, and she said more fatal cases show fractures already in utero. She did not say Baby A had fractures, or even indicate the baby had fractures.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more WTF it is. They are jumping to the worst possible scenario (baby dead on arrival) based on a one minute 2D ultrasound performed by a resident, which by the way, Arizona and Hermann only looked at for a collective 30 seconds. The symptoms that Arizona listed could be caused by a number of different conditions. And if it is OI, there are so many types of OI that immediately assuming it's Type II (the fatal kind) is so far-fetched it's not even funny.

I am 100% convinced this was all dramatized for the sake of it being the Fall Finale and they wanted us to think the absolute worst for two months. But anyone with common sense, not even needing medical background, can tell you that their diagnosis was SUCH a jump to make with so little information. There would be so much testing done, 3D ultrasounds, amnios, so on and so forth to accurately make that diagnosis.

There are Japril fans with OB backgrounds on Tumblr just beside themselves with how unrealistic that diagnosis was with such little information.

I think their diagnosis was either wrong all together or it's going to be a very mild case.They made a point of saying USUALLY.. COULD BE.. IF THIS IS... none of them were certain, which is another reason they're acting like this is a hopeless scenario already is WTF.

ALSO..

If the baby was really going to die, I think they would've make it look hopeful initially, so that when the baby died it was more heartbreaking. To tell them from the get-go "this is hopeless, your baby is gonna die" and then just stew on that for multiple episodes until April delivers a dead baby does not make an intriguing storyline, for anyone.

I just finished to watch the episode and I'm so heartbroken right now I was prepared for drama, but not for something so bad and hopeless
Tbh judging by the promo I've expected more focus on the Japril storyline (but I guess I should get use to this, unfortunatelly no much Japril screentime this year) ad when I heard Arizona and doctor Herman explained the diagnosis my first reaction was then and then when I saw Jackson's face, when he heard the news, I was really a mess I can't imagine what state I would be right now if they had show us the moment when he would have told everything to April.

I'm also so mad I know Shronda never do normal pregnancy on her show, but WHY? something so tragic for our beloved couple? We barely seem them happy and now we have to suffer so much. I don't want baby Avery to die, but doesn't seems there is much hope left.

Now I get why April gonna bond with Amelia so much, she had an experience like that ( it was so painful to watch in PP Amelia goodbye to his son ) I'm sure she gonna help April a lot.

Anyway still in shock, it's gonna take time for me to accept this storyline!

I havent really posted here for a while (since before the wedding i think) but i have been constantly reading all your speculations, they are really interesting and youre all such good detectives

It's good to see that many of you are optimistic but I am unfortunately more on the pessimistic side of things Although the diagnosis seemed quite rushed, not properly investigated etc i find it really difficult to believe that 3 doctors out of 3 were so completely wrong on such a big thing. Unfortunately i do think that the diagnosis is correct and that doesnt look good for our baby A

However, I also think that its so weird that Jesse and Sarah have been posting pics like the certificate and repeatedly said that they were so excited about the story line if that involves a dead baby - there something that just doesnt make sense here, and like many of you, I doubt that they would be so morbid/mean. On the other hand I can also see why as actors this type of material might be exciting as they usually dont get such meaty stuff....

So here is my speculation on how the story goes:

April and Jackson get to know about the diagnosis and conflict starts about whether she should get an abortion (with Jackson in favour and April disagreeing)

I suppose that they will go through the pregnancy in the end because there is no way they could survive as a couple if April decides to have an abortion. Also I remember Shonda saying that they were deciding when (what episode) to make April give birth, which implies that she does

So they wait for the baby to be born, and then either they baby dies, and the story becomes about how they have to survive as a couple/lean on each other after losing their child (I can still see how such a story would be exciting for them to play as actors, although it's so sad)

OR

They find / experiment some new type of weird treatment/surgery/gene therapy thing that eventually saves the baby....

Here's the biggest thing for me. I can handle their baby dying. It happens in real life, all of the time, and people cope, they survive, they move on. I think Jesse and Sarah would kill that storyline. However, with this particular congenital disease, it means there is a 50/50 chance that ALL of their future babies could have it. So, not only would they be killing their baby, but they're also killing the hope of any future children, which I am not okay with.

The baby is born in episode 10/11, as they are filming those two episode simultaneously and Jesse posted the certificate last night. On the positive side, death certificates do not require parents signatures nor a doctor's signature. However, with this disease, they say the baby doesn't live long after birth, so a birth certificate would be necessary even if the baby was dying. So I am leaning towards it being a birth certificate.

This also brings up Bailey's geno lab, which not too long ago we were convinced would tie into the baby storyline, since Jackson shut down her lab and it would be just his luck that his baby would need her gene therapy.

Then there's bubble boy. His outlook seemed pretty hopeless, and wow, thanks to Bailey he's off living a normal life. So I dunno. They WANT us to think there's nothing that can be done, which is why I have a feeling that there will end up being a solution.

About 25 percent of children with OI are born into a family with no history of the disorder. That is, a child is born with a dominant genetic mutation that causes OI, yet neither parent has OI. This occurs when the child has a "new" or "spontaneous" dominant mutation. The gene spontaneously mutated in either the sperm or the egg before the child's conception. Now that the child has a dominant gene for OI, he or she has a 50 percent chance of passing the disorder on to his or her children, as explained above.

In most cases, when a family with no history of OI has a child with OI, they are not at any greater risk than the general population for having a second child with OI. So they could go on to have other children. I 100% believe that IF they lose this baby they will have another one before series end
