He really did, the show never recovered from losing Luke and Anna pretty much back to back.

And I agree with Norman that Lindsay wasn't as compelling as an alternate love interest as Theresa. I don't think Ben and Navi had great chemistry either, but Theresa was a more interesting character.

I was just thinking this! In contrast to Ben who... barely acknowledged that she exists.

It's so interesting that the book does not touch on B/M's chemistry considering it is so critical for the beginning of the show. I would love to know who else Mischa chemistry tested with - I assume Chad Michael Murray since he was offered the role (but there is no mention of him in the book).

Also, I HATED Sadie for many reasons lol but I randomly came across an old article of Nikki Reed badmouthing Mischa while on the show, absolutely bizarre how that was allowed and I wonder how she contributed to the negative set dynamics at the time.

I'm actually fairly certain Ben and Mischa did not chemistry test. Something happened, some schedule thing happened. I remember that from back in the day. She tested with some of the Ryans IIRC, but not him.

I think they're REFERENCING it in the "cigarette kiss" scene, but they never say it specifically (talking about their chemistry, that is). And I actually doubt Mischa would have a problem with it, she has been okay talking about R/M before, but it may be masking the larger issue.

Got a bit lucky that Mischa and Ben had great chemistry then, at least in the first season at least

I agree with them that the first moment that grabs you in the pilot is their first scene, particularly when he lights her cigarette with his. She hasn't been that sure of him, his pick-up line was cheesy, but when he does that, she looks so charmed.
