I think he did love Marissa to some degree (not sure about Kaitlin), but that didn't come close to how much he loved himself.

Jimmy always came off as a weak-willed narcissist to me. And he's relatively lucky in Julie's train wreck of parenting in S1, in that Marissa did not tell him to get lost and stay that way when he lost all their money and turned them into pariahs.

If Julie had her **** together as a parent, Marissa likely would not have found herself so attached to Jimmy, given that when she did feel Julie somewhat had it together, she told her father to peace out.
