I think Veronica cared for Piz, but they were two very different people on two very different levels. I think it wasn't just she wasn't as invested in the relationship. But also Logan needed her and she had a case to solve. And I don't think it was just because she was in love with Logan. He's one of her oldest friends who was in serious trouble and she's not the type to stand by and let see innocent people suffer. Especially when she has a deep connection with them and cared about them. It would probably be the same with Wallace and Mac, without the whole sleeping with them thing.
