Hi! I'm Jess! Bear with me, as I haven't been on any kind of fan forum in a while, so I hope I don't screw up too much.
I just want to say that I loved LoVe fourth season, and felt like real issues were explored, especially about Veronica's conflicted feelings for who she wanted Logan to be, and what she has always wanted out of him. My issue with s4, was not the ending, which I won't spoil, but the writing of the entire season. It was missing that cult charm. It seems like Rob Thomas was too busy being "dark" for Hulu, as was advertised to us many times, and not enough time focusing on the content of the writing. Veronica Mars wasn't one of those shows that needed lax standards and practices regulations. I just hated that. However, as this is a LoVe thread, I just want to say that I liked how the complexities of that relationship were really touched upon. Because it was always such a back and forth thing, that wasn't worthy of the kind of couple they are. |

Hi Jess! Welcome!
When did you start watching VM? Thanks for your thoughts. I so agree with your last sentence there. Dark does not always mean "better" either. |

Thanks for the response. I started watching VM when I was sixteen...so 2006. I don't even know what got me into it. I wound up starting it end of season 2, and given that was still long-season arc mysteries, it's strange why I would stick with it, before Jake Kane made streaming video truly accessible, ;-). But, at the same time, I remember watching the season 2 finale, and just being so hit with like WHOA, this is a great show. I've been obsessed ever since. Watching it on Hulu really made me miss the old "realistic fiction" of the CW. I love many genres, but it seems like shows like Veronica Mars or even One Tree Hill, and also, gilmore girls, are nowhere to be found. And, yes, as soon as I saw that about the "darkness", I was like, "Oh, boy," then, I watched it, and realized I only can really watch the LoVe seasons, because I think those were the best produced. Even the mystery was kind of anticlimactic. With the who dunnit, at the end. That's what I hated about the darkness. Is that what happened with LoVe at the end, like that didn't really have any substantial basis. It was more for shock value, because the mystery was not nearly as great as Aaron Echolls or Cassidy or any of that. It was bleh. Sorry, this veered from general to LoVe to general. Ah! |

It's been almost a year since Season 4 and I still don't understand what Rob was thinking. He knew how popular LoVe was and he STILL sabotaged the show, basically. I will never understand it. I can't even bring myself to watch the show, yet. If they had killed Logan off with a heroic death, like him saving Veronica, I might not feel this way. But, like I've said before, why do it in Season 4? Do it in Season 5-let us be happy for awhile.
I agree with you that there's nothing like VM, GG, or Buffy on tv. I haven't watched the new Nancy Drew so don't know about that one. I don't watch much tv anymore. |

I think they tried with Lucy Hale and Life Sentence, but today's demographic needs are more superhero/supernatural. That was fine when it literally was just Supernatural, TVD, and TO, but there's no realistic fiction, no dialogue, none of that. And, I totally agree with you about Rob. He said something about the movie they did for the fans, and the show they did for themselves. And, he said he thought Veronica shouldn't be attached to a guy or whatever. So, what does that mean? Her only options are pining for Logan or stereotype spinster? No. She and Logan had gotten to a good place, where she could be a woman with a career and a husband. The thought that a strong, feminist, woman can't be married, like what? It all seemed so stupid. I mean, I never good get into iZombie, so maybe he lost his touch. |

Completely agree with everything you said and I will never understand why he thought that was a good idea |

Thanks!
I have this feeling that sometimes as fans, at least, for me, I hated conflict. Like. No Drama EVER. That's generally because the tropes are so redundant and trite, and it's like, ugh, infidelity, ugh, Three's Company misunderstandings, but on a much more grotesque and dark scale. Or that shock value ending, which wasn't valuable at all, of season 4. I liked that Logan and Veronica were never perfect. And they both had these flaws and complexities, and they'd call each other out. Especially season 3, when Logan had Veronica followed because of Mercer, and she's like, "Dude! Really?" And he talked about how she always says she's built this way and that and not that way and that, but always expecting everyone except him to change. Thus, I really appreciated how he called her out on her like addiction to his bad boy side, which she simultaneously hates. But that ending, NOPE. That's kind of a slap in the face. This idea that Rob was like, well, Veronica's not a person who can or should have it all. Excuse me? |

Agreed, the ending will never make any sense and I'm not sure why Rob thought it was a good idea
