So get this story.....during our Represent #highschoolforever campaign, a lawyer in Loudoun County - @abemoiz - reached out. “I think I know someone who can help out at Park View,” he said. God bless that man, cause the next thing I knew, he’d introduced up to @nflpa ! Cary Grossart, Brandon Parker and other members of the NFL Players Association did not hesitate even for a moment in helping us. They knew our brand new football team was in dire need of new cleats, and they raced to get us the funds to not only cover cleats before our first game, but other much needed equipment as well. In all, they donated TEN THOUSAND dollars to our Park View Patriots.
Meanwhile, a rep at Nike - Chas Rogers - caught wind that my husband and I were begging for cleats on social media. He called and offered us a generous discount! As you can see, our kids flipped out! And on top of all of that, @clintonportis was cool enough to come visit our team and present them with their brand new gear!
Last year, football was cancelled because only 18 kids showed up. I heard every excuse under the sun. “Kids are lazy. They don’t like football. They’re apathetic.” I called bull****.
The moment we removed the financial roadblocks at this Title 1 school, the kids showed up!
It was us, the adults, who had failed to show up. So now that we are rebuilding from the ground up, big thank yous to our principal @kirkdolson and the staff at PV, @bowtiestrategies for the continued support, the Loudoun Education Foundation, @buffalowingfactory for providing food to our team and doing events to collect food donations and funds for our school, @loudounsportsangels for sending our boys to camp, Coach Brian Day at Riverside for donating practice jerseys. And a huge thank you to our tireless advocate and school board member Brenda Sheridan. It’s easy to come in and do grand gestures. But the day to day hard work is done by Brenda, who champions diversity and inclusion. Everything Park View stands for. I complimented her rainbow ribbon today and she gave it to me. I definitely shed a tear.
We’re all in this together.
