Ooh pretty places Janet!
My parents are thinking about moving us all to Canada because my Dad can actually get a better job there. I think it would be cool. I've been readin Kathy Reichs books at the moment which are all set there. __________________

I still have to visit Canada. I should do that soon.
Jen--if you moved, when would that be? __________________

Probably not for a couple of years... I don't know. I need to finish University here first and Dad would have to find and apply for a job. My brother would also have to finish University, but we're in the same year now because he repeated a couple of years (his autism makes it difficult for him to concetrate on revising on his own) - so hopefully now he will graduate at the same time as me.

Very cool, Jen. I've never really understood the British system of universities, with the revisions and such, but maybe someone will explain it to me.

Well this is pretty much the system:
- Well most courses are for 3 years but some are four years which include a work placement. - You pick a subject before you go off to University. - You apply for the subject at the University of your choosing and then they make you an offer. For example they will say that if you get 3 C's at A-level then you are guaranteed a place at the University. Or they may specify that you need a B or higher in the subject you choose. For me I had to get 2 C grade A-levels in any subject, but they accepted me because I got 2 D's & an E - Then you go off and do the specific course that you chose to do. If you fail a year you can re-take but if you fail 2 then they probably won't want you back. Though sometimes there are special circumstances like with my brother. Did that help explain it? __________________

I'm a definite Montrealer: I'm not sad the expos are gone, I just miss Youppi. Jen, it's pretty cool. I like the Kathy Reichs books, but there was one where Tempe found a parking space close to downtown quite easily at 3 pm. I was like "dude, at least make it realistic" But for the most part I can imagine where she's referring to because I've been here for the past 18 years Jen, our universities are 3 years in Quebec. We finish high school in grade 11, then 2 years are spent in cegep (one replacing grade 12 and one replacing the first year of university) and university is 3 years. |

Jen--that does explain it, but now you'll need to explain the grades to me. What's better a C or a D? In America, the C is better an D, but it seems the opposite for you.
Janet--ok! Youppi was the mascot, right? (just checked wiki to be sure.) American universities are four years, so that's part of why I'm a bit confused about the British system. __________________

No a C is better than a D, but what I got is worth the same points:
A = 120 points B = 100 points C = 80 points D = 60 Points E = 40 points So really when they asked for 2 C's they wanted me to get 160 points which I also got with 2 D's & an E I was so bad in school back then, all I would do is play on all the time. At university now I have the equivalent of a B average I think that American Universities probably have 4 years because you don't do just one subject while you're there. __________________

Ok, Jen. This makes more sense now. I'm still a bit fuzzy on the revisions part, but I understand the grades now.

You mean revision? Revising just means studying - going over things before an exam could that be it?
