My asthma is still not great, but other then that I'm doing better.

No doubt you have a inhaler for it but there are some home remedies that worked slowly but effectively for me when I suffered with it, thankfully I don't suffer with it anymore.
Try fresh ginger in your food and drinks. There is something in the ginger what clears up the coughing. Also black tea/black coffee can help. The caffeine makes the airways clear but you have to drink alot of it I drank 6 cups of black tea a day before I felt my chest more better.
Not all of these remedies on the net work, but those two are pretty good.

I totally believe the caffeine! I am a caffeine addict, and I notice that by afternoon I can breathe much better because I've had caffeine. I do have an inhaler, I find I can get away with using it twice a day, just 1 puff each time. I am trying to wing myself off of it if I can though.
