I think I'm most looking forward to our male posters of the board coming forward and defending Sav and Anya. Less than an hour to go folks.

So far from who I've talked to I'm in the minority on this, but I thought Anya was more in the wrong than Sav. I couldn't believe she did that! Lying about protection is something I find unforgivable. Yes, Sav lied about dating Anya to his family. But they're in HIGH SCOOL! It would be a different story if they were older. But Anya could have messed up their futures. I was glad Sav stayed with her while she took the pill. But also glad they broke up. He's right, how could he trust her after that.
I really enjoyed Alli and Dave! I like their friendship, and I think if that continued they could have a good romantic relationship too. Johnny and Bruce were great too! I was so glad Johnny had a plot! All three plots were good this week. Was it just me or did Teennick play a billion Tampon commercials during this episode? |

And that's more about that subject than I ever want to talk about, so moving on.... I think both Anya and Sav were in the wrong on this one. He needed to man up and tell his parents about their relationship (Holly J was on point with that) and she should have never have lied about being on the pill. If I had to say one was worse than the other, I would probably say he was, but the bottom line is that both didn't feel comfortable enough with their relationship to be and open and honest with each other. So in that regard, their break-up at the end makes total sense. I do like them together, and I did really feel awful for Anya when she was crying while watching that King/Queen clip at the end. Still, given all their starts and stops, I'm hoping this one sticks for a while. The morning after pill? That's a new one for the show, and I'm pretty happy they went down that road rather than some other ways they could have gone. I don't know what the laws are in Canada, but in most (not all) places in the US, you need a prescription if you're under 17, which is a category in which many if not most girls watching the show on Friday night would fall under. As for the other plots, Dave is awesome. I don't know if I want him and Alli to be a couple (I like the idea of having a male/female friendship for a while without the other stuff getting in the way), but I really did enjoy the two of them together. Alli also had some great one-liners in the main plot. A Johnny/Bruce plot? I very much approve. This was about as much as we've seen Bruce do in his run on the show (the only other plot that comes close was the one with him and Dave). I like his friendship with Johnny, there's a casual ease about it that you get with a lot of friendships (witness the scene where they make up) , pretty realistic in that way. Oh and speaking of Bruce, he was hilarious at the formal. A good episode in which all three plots worked. Glad to have the show back, even if it's just in American seeing episodes Canadians (and others) have already seen mode for the next month. And I like the hints about __________________

Damn, Anya.
Agreeing with JustMe that while they both sucked in that situation, that Sav was ultimately worse in that he should've just taken whatever crap his parents would've given him about Anya. Lying about protection during sex is pretty reprehensible, but he should have been honest from the get go instead of playing with Anya's feelings like that. I just felt completely awful for her during those scenes with Farah (speaking of which, I hope that's not the last we've seen of her, she was cool). And since this is Degrassi, we got the Family Unfriendly Aesop in the end that apparently "it doesn't matter what HE did to you, you lied about sex/protection and that's worse so you get dumped. Nyah!" We finally get a Johnny/Bruce plot, and it was entertaining enough. While we know Bruce is gone next season (despite a throwaway line suggesting he was credits short of graduating), I wonder if Johnny stays. I kinda like him and Alli together, though I definitely wouldn't mind Dave/Alli (Dalli? Allave?) I guess it would look like Alli is a snob for dating a senior and wanting to be "grown up," that "snob" line from Dave took me back a little but it made sense. I hope Sav/Anya find their way back together. And Samantha killed that scene in the end. __________________

I like Farah too, and with Sav's future marriage being a major issue for his character, I'm guessing we'll see her again at some point.
One thing I didn't mentioned which I liked was the signs that Johnny is going to continue his education at university. We had seen signs that despite whatever gruff exterior he may show, he seems to his stuff together when it comes to his school work. So good on the show for keeping that thread going. __________________

This episode was alright. I enjoyed it. I also agree that both of them were in the wrong. I'm one of the few people who actually likes Sav and Anya. It's not like I'm devastated that they broke up but I like them each as characters. I think that they are both realistic.
This episode really made me realise that Anya is definitely the Degrassi girl with the lowest self esteem. She constantly needs reassurance from the other characters that she's good enough. All Farrah had to do was be a little mean to her and Anya automatically assumes that the only way Sav wont leave her is if she has sex with him. This Farrah girl doesn't even know anything about Sav and yet she's so confident that Sav is suddenly going to like her. Whereas Anya has known him for a long time now, and her first instinct is that Sav is going to suddenly stop liking her. It's sad. & I don't like Farrah. I really hope that she and Sav don't end up together. Because that would just be too easy... but I'm sure that we will see her again. The niners once again proved to be a highlight. Dave is quickly becoming my favourite character, and all the scenes with Alli and Sav were cute as well. __________________

I really loved this two parter. The show kind of went back to its roots with these episodes.
I will say the first half of the A plot was slightly boring, but at least they didn't abandon Sav and his family issues with the arranged marriage. Sav/Anya always seemed like a strictly fluff couple to me, and in the beginning, it seemed like things would stay that way. The promos pretty much gave everything away though, so the whole A plot was pretty much already figured out for me. I thought it was sweet how Anya asked Sav to the formal and not the other way around. Most girls just have to be asked by a guy, and that showed how laid back she can be. Sav could have done a better job with his possible future wife and the whole arranged marriage thing. If he really loved Anya, he would have stepped up and been more of a man about it. On the other hand, Sav's cowardly ways should have a red flag for Anya. She would have been the last character I would have thought of when someone said "this Degrassi girl lost her virginity in the backseat of a limo." I was very disappointed in her. Especially because no precautions were taken. I never thought she would have sex to keep a guy. I really liked the scenes were Anya came clean to Sav and when they were on the bench with the morning after pill. They were both very realistic. Although the ending broke my heart, I'm not as annoyed by Sav and Anya anymore. They're not all squeaky clean now. However, I hope Anya has learned her lesson. I was a little sad because they turned both of them into the typical high school girl and guy. Anya will do anything to keep her boyfriend, and of course Sav is going to take advantage. I know what Anya did was wrong, but Sav just had to break up with her like two days after having sex with her, right? I mean, they dated a whole year! I don't think that Raymond and Samantha are the best actors on the show, but I was very pleased with their performances this time around. I was also very excited because Johnny finally got to do without a female main character in the picture! Yay! I was also happy that Johnny and Alli actually spoke to each other. I know it wasn't romantic at all, but they interacted, and that's all I wanted. I knew he would ask her to the formal! Even though she turned him down, I still have hope that they'll be civil one day in the future. It was nice to see Bruce do something too, although he's just the Derek in Danny and Derek to me. It was nice to see Johnny step up and tell him how immature he was. I know their fight was supposed to be serious, but it was kind of funny to me. I mean, you don't just stop talking to your best friend since season 7, do ya? The Dave/Alli thing was cute though. I was thinking they'd hit it off, but at least Dave can be honest. Alli did always act like a princess, and it's time someone told her that. You could really tell that Johnny was jealous every time he saw them together. After the destruction of Johnny/Alli, I thought Alli might like someone like Dave, but I guess she's just too good for him. Maybe they can at least hang out though. |

This was a good episode all around! I'm impressed...but I did go in with little expectations. I think I was even bracing myself for the usual annoyance I feel when Sav is around. To my surprise his goofyness was downplayed and I even was able to understand his point of view. Anya's too. They both aren't the type of characters I expected to find myself thinking about; questioning their judgment and placing myself in their situation. But I did and that is awesome because I think that's what this show is about. It should be something that the viewer can relate to, no matter their age or sex.
I'm not sure if anyone was more in the wrong for their actions but Sav and Anya have a way of creating a domino effect with the situation they are involved in. But it's strange because I don't really blame either character too severely for it. I can't imagine the pressure Sav feels because of his family and I don't think it's that easy for him to stand up to his parents. I'm not really a fan of his but this is something interesting and something every teen can relate to an extent. But I'm not sure that every viewer understands how severe the outcome could be if Sav defies his family...or if his fears are even justified. He's allowed to have them, but I'm just not too clear if his parents would cut all ties if he defied them. They seem fairly tolerant with his head in the clouds dream of being a musician (although on this show that will most likely be handed to him on a silver platter, if it hasn't already in Degrassi Goes Hollywood). Anya, Anya, Anya...her actions scare me but at the same time they seem so her and it's hard not to feel badly for her, especially since Samantha nailed that final scene. I'm kind of surprised that she upsets me more than Sav. Her content with being Sav's groupie queen to the drastic actions she takes to secure her status as Sav's forever girlfriend are a bit disturbing for me personally. It's just not the type of behavior I like to see in girls. I understand it in a way, especially teen(?) rationalization of the use of sex in an attempt to keep someone interested. But this episode really proved that Sav and Anya need plenty of space apart to grow before they even think of becoming involved again. They both need to become individuals and find out what they really want. I'm happy that there most likely won't be a pregnancy related storyline. The morning after pill is a fresh outlook...although the circumstances it happened were a little unnerving because of Anya's desperation to keep Sav. I flip flop on understanding her teen mind but at the same time when I saw that scene I was horrified and basically pleaded with Sav to check her mouth to make sure she swallowed the pill. Like Sav, I no longer trust Anya. The b-plots were all around enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the Bruce-Johnny one...their make up scene was memorable. I'm bummed that Bruce the Moose isn't going to be around anymore. The prom montages sort of gave me that same sad feeling; who is going to be around next season and who isn't and I'm surprised by the characters I've grown to enjoy and now they will be gone (Peter, I'm thinking of you. You better have another slashy scene with Riley before you go!). __________________

Speaking of the Prom, or formal, or whatever it was called. There were a number of upperclassmen missing in the episode, which is a little surprising, considering they usually try to get most everyone involved in their school dance/prom/formal episodes.
Missing were......Leia, Blue, Riley, Fiona and Jane. And you'd have to assume that if Jane went to this thing, she would take Spin, so I guess you have to include him too. __________________

Leia and Blue probably didn't have dates. Somehow it's hard for me to picture Fiona there. She didn't go to the Beach Bash dance either. And Spin and Jane had a big prom blowout last year. They're probably over it.

See I find it less likely to see Johnny and Bruce there more than any of the others mentioned.

All the people that weren't there were too lame to get dates. Or unable to be in that episode perhaps? Out of the characters listed, Riley, Jane and Fiona are the only ones most people care about. Plus, Leia and Danny had just broken up, so maybe she's still crying in her tub of Ben&Jerry's? |

Yeah, I agree with you guys on how it was odd that everyone wasn't there. In past dance episodes, they usually try to get everyone in the background at some point. It is odd that Bruce and Johnny were there but I think the circumstances for why they ended up there together were comical.
I was hoping Riley would show up with Peter. Quote:
