Okay, so thoughts on the episode:
Mia's plot may have been the a-plot, but it wasn't really all that dominant throughout the episode. I liked that the three plots sort of tied in together. I also liked how it was about school, most shows just focus on the drama between friends or couples and school is just the backdrop. It was nice that school was the main plot. It was also nice to see Isabella again. And with Mia, at that. With all that said...I thought the episode was boring though. It was obviously a filler episode. The end was pretty cheesy as well. Not a memorable episode and definitely not a very strong one. I was happy to see a promo for next week though. |

Meh.
Spinner needs to get a life. Is Degrassi so desperate that they need to show Mia half naked to get ratings? How is it possible for Mia to be a Mom, a model, and a full time high school student all at once? It’s difficult enough just to be a teen Mom who still goes to school, let alone a part time celebrity. The ending was kind of cool.. sort of.. maybe. I buy the whole it’s-okay-if-you-don’t-have-a-life-plan message they were sending. Next week could either be really good or really bad. Right now it’s looking bad, but we shall see. __________________

Mia, Mia, Mia. This is why I can't truely hate her character, she's a Mary-Sue wannabe. She wants to be this person who does it all, have it all, be it all. Pretty realistic, though she needs to get her priorities straight. Did not know she missed a year, so she is Jane/Peter/Grade 12s age. I knew something had to give, so her failing/thinking about dropping out is to be expected. Glad she didn't, I think she now fits in the whole dynamic of the show.
Holly J's subplot was gold. Her attempts to be creative fall flat, of course. Type A person all around. Makes it even more puzzling to why she would be so into Blue, but I dunno. I guess he's cute. Sav's subplot was good as well, and I like how his father finally accepted his desire to look into being a musician. Overall, this was a great little filler episode. Quote:

This episode was ok. I watched it last night and while it had certain elements I wasn't that impressed. It wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, either.
I loved the Mia and Holly J plots. I even liked Sav's. It's realistic. I too enjoyed the Holly J plot, loved how she didn't get the concept of the art project but didn't give up. Mia's plot was...I'm not down with the "celeb" part of her life but I do enjoy seeing her with Izzy, however...can't they at least get a better suited kid to act for that role? The little girl who plays Izzy is too stiff for me to watch. There's not a lot of feelings involved in her lines when she says them. I try not to be judgemental about something I know nothing about but...ew. I think Mia should've been out of school longer, maybe a month to a week to come to terms with knowing she needed to be back at Degrassi. And I think there should've been more of a fuss from her classmates about getting to finish her project when she just arrived. I'm looking forward to the next episode, that one sounds more interesting. |

This turned out to be one of my favorite episodes of the season.
I'm a sucker for actual school-related plots and the fact that we got three of them that all tied into each other? Major plus points in my book. I did enjoy the two subplots more than the main plot. Holly J's plot, in particular, I thought was terrific. I loved that she really had no clue what to do (it helps that I've been in the same boat) and that even when she did get it done, she still wasn't sure how or why that was what the art teacher wanted. Also good to see Blue hasn't dropped off the face of the earth. As for Sav, his plot did remind me a little bit of what we saw with Manny last season, but we did get a little bit of a different angle to it. I like the idea of Sav being able to convince his father to let him do the music class soon after he stood his ground on dating Anya. There's a nice continuity there. Also, for those of you who complain about celebs on the show, here was a pretty low key way of using one. I too thought it would have been nice from a storyline standpoint for Mia to not return to school so soon but I knew that wasn't going to happen so I'm not going to sweat it too much. While I still think not enough is being done with her as a mother, I did like that they at least show the effect the whole modeling thing is having on her school life ( to Sauvé). And I was also happy to see them have a character that didn't have much of a clue as to where she'll be in five years. The ending was a little cheesy, but I did enjoy the way the story lines were interwoven in that final montage. __________________

This was a nice episode! I really liked it...one of my favorites from the season. I too liked how all three of the plots tied into one. I liked the main plot with Mia the best, but the Sav and Holly J ones were good too.
I liked that this episode reminded us a lot that Mia is still a teen mom too...even with the whole celeb thing doing on, which I was never a fan of watching (expecially in Uptown Girl), but didn't mind in this episode because it wasn't the focus. I also like that she's only going to be modeling in the summer and on holidays. I would like to see more scenes of her being a mom and dealing with high school issues. Izzy is just the cutest little girl. I love the scene where she asks Mia why she is crying. It was so adorable. I don't see the big deal about her not being some great actress....she's just a little kid. I loved the scene where Mia's mom reminded Mia about how she always wanted to do it all. Which was noticeable ever sense she first came to degrassi. But I liked that she actually was able to think through that modeling might not be in her future. The speech was very nice. I expecially like how she mentioned that she thought she had a perfect future planned out until she had a daughter at thirteen. I also really liked that she realized that she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life yet. It seems like everyone else there kind of has an idea on what they want, but realistically at the age of seventeen, a lot of them don't. Even in college a lot of kids don't know yet. I am twenty and still figuring it out. Oh yeah, and it figures Chante would want to be a reporter. Ahhh, she is so annoying. |

Eh. This episode really wasn't one of my favorites at all.
I thought Mia's storyline was interesting when she dropped out, but going back the next day? Didn't seem very real to me. Overall this episode just didn't seem that important to me. and I agree, Chante is annoying. __________________

It was so adorable. I don't see the big deal about her not being some great actress....she's just a little kid.
It's not about her being some great actress. When I watch the scenes with Izzy, she's not..animated. She's too stiff and I don't really like to say bad things about an occupation of which I know nothing about, but it doesn't seem to me like the little kid tries that much. There are other child stars that are more...what's the word I'm looking for...animated when they are on screen, I guess. Not trying to start a debate, just explaining myself a little. |

This episode actually was pretty good. I went in without expectations. It was nice how the three plots tied into the same message about making decisions, establishing an identity, and struggling with the idea of a future. It felt very high school and it was nice to get 3 different perspectives. Surprisingly Sav didn't bother me. I still don't take him seriously but I didn't that irrational urge to smack him upside the head.
I've always liked the part of Mia that tries so hard and wants to do it all. I don't think the modeling really fits in well with her teen mom image. Looking back, she actually had some decent plots dealing with that in Season 7...and if I remember correctly some of season 6 with trying to fit in. Some things I said on Mia the teen mom in the Jane Says thread: Quote:
