For the life of me I do not understand Reddit at all! I seriously don't understand what happens there, how to follow the conversations, what it all means, nothing. It's the one website that makes me feel like maybe I'm too old for the internet or something. HOW DOES IT WORK I DON'T GET IT

I've made maybe ten comments there but never made a self.post or have done much linking/formatting so I can't help you there. I didn't understand what karma was until I was a member for maybe a year or more. Karma is just people upvoting or downvoting one of your comments or posts. I'm not entirely sure how it affects your profile or whatever...it seems like it is mostly a worthless thing but for some reason it is a big deal to the users and some are determined to prove something is fake and are "karma whores." I guess it is basically a big popularity game to drive traffic? You want what you submitted to be on the front page.

I do understand and like the formatting of the thread comments. Someone makes a comment and then it is indented when they reply. Once there is more chatter it can get a bit confusing but for the most part I remember what is being said...but when that convo ends it is like why am I here and what are was first being said?

I've been around long enough to be annoyed and fascinated by the behavior or "hivemind" of the community though.

I understand the formatting of the threads but I find it impossible to follow. Why is everything so tiny and plain?! I need like big, boxy, color-coordinated threads with avatars. Something a senior citizen could understand.

On a more random note, is anyone here familiar with multi-level marketing (MLM) scams? My best friend got involved in one of these and I don't know how to break it to her that it's basically a glorified pyramid scheme. I had to go to her "launch" event and it was so freaking weird. Everyone seemed almost hypnotized. My friend kept saying how the woman who recruited her has "changed her life." Then I was reading up on Amway (which her company is very similar to) and it all started to make sense.

Quote:
Some Amway distributor groups have been accused of using cult-like tactics to attract new distributors and keep them involved and committed. Allegations include resemblance to a Big Brother organization with paranoid attitude to insiders critical of the organization, seminars and rallies resembling religious revival meetings and enormous involvement of distributors despite minimal incomes.

Then I started to think, you know, this would actually make a really good Degrassi episode! I wonder why they haven't done something like this. Maybe high school is too young to get involved in a pyramid scheme, but I feel like it's totally something that Fiona would have gotten suckered into.

A pyramid scheme sounds like a funny plot. I definitely could see Fiona falling for one.
Speaking of money makers, does anyone else try out Bing Rewards? It's slow, but helpful.

It definitely has been too hot over here, as well, Sixonxnavade. It's been like 90 degrees since Thursday. My prom was 92 degrees and it was really unbearable. But I still had a lot of fun! I went with my friends (in a limo!) and took some pictures. It's so weird how it's all over, though!

Well, Alli had her poker rink if that counts as a pyramid scheme. But yeah, Fiona probably would fall for one, too.

And yeah, it's been especially hot here lately. I want to just go swimming and eat ice cream all the time but sitting indoors with air conditioning works too.

I was thinking about air conditioning the other day- central air, that's got to be one of the five best inventions of the 20th century, or whatever century it got invented in. I don't know how people (at least in certain places) lived before it.

Are there any Game of Thrones fans here? Apparently their world ended the other night.

I don't watch that, but my brother does.

Some sort of congratulations to recent graduates? Or something about summer?

Speaking of summer...I just realized the other day that Big Brother is coming back soon. I don't know if we have any watchers of that show around here THAT POST!!! (JEN!!!!). Last year's win with Ian was pretty satisfying since I don't always agree with it. Here's hoping for the same although I'm sure I'll be driven crazy throughout the run of the season.

Today I picked my college classes out for my freshman year fall semester! I hope I don't have a Paige or Emma like experience. I feel nervous but it's weird because I haven't even stepped inside a college classroom yet. But on the plus side, I get Fridays off next year and my earliest classes start at 10!

Hm... no title ideas. Maybe something about Big Brother and graduation? Like "Big Brother will give us our dose of High School Drama" or something less wordy.

10? That's still too early. I told my nephew to try and not get anything before 11. I didn't get to pick the classes out for my first semester. Instead we were assigned a schedule and those bastards gave me an 8:00 class every day of the week. That may or may not have been why I transferred after that semester.

I got my classes too (I feel like I should mention that NocturnalCouchPotato and I are twins to clarify things ). I want to change them because so far I have classes every day and that's not the best situation for commuting. And my earliest class is at ... 8:30, so I'd like that to get changed to something more ideal, as well.
