They're a bunch of brutes!

So I hate getting my blood drawn. And since I've been feeling really sick I've had to get it drawn a lot lately. Like, I went into my doctor's office Tuesday and I wound up needing to get a blood test done, but I was feeling super sick (like, head exploding from pain, aching all over my body) and my blood was not coming out and I started getting woozy and nauseated and told them to stop. So they tried to run the test but the blood wasn't good or it did something so they could't run the test.

So I went back today since I'm feeling a little better and I went first in the morning. I was really good too, I had the phlebotomist try to draw blood out of the one I usually get it drawn out of and it started to go, but it was really, really slow and then it sputtered out and and stopped. So she took the needle out and took a look at my other arm. Then she tried on my right arm (that was on my left arm before) and did the same slow start into the tube and came like molasses. So she asked if I'd drank much water and I hadn't yet, so I drank the bottle of water I had and tried again and went back again and went for in a third time and it was still really thick so I left!

But I was determined to get it done, so I went home and drank a big glass of water and had some food, and went back a couple of hours later. I got this one lab tech who just rubbed me the wrong way from the day I'd felt really sick and they'd tried to draw my blood on Tuesday and when he went into the vein on my left arm, it was really sore and swollen, so I just involuntarily jerked my arm back and yanked the needle out after he'd gotten it in and oh boy...he looked at me like he wanted to kill me, He was pissed. So then I told him I wanted someone else!

This guy who is all silver haired and foxy came in, he's drawn my blood a few times and he does it very good He went in for a vein on my right arm and I was kind of upset from the other guy so I calmed down as best I could because he told me he'd only try once and he got in and I stayed still and calm but he lost the vein so he had to pull out. Then he decided to try a vein on the underside of my forearm on my left arm and I was a little freaked but he did it, he got blood going and he got the blood! BUT! oh my god, as soon as he pulled the needle out the whole circumference around the needle puncture turned totally, totally blue.

I had it wrapped for a couple of hours but now...it looks scary! Not to mention I've got track marks all over my arm, I look like a heroine junkie

oouuuchie, those brutes!!

For me, it was more like....

Me: "I may get dizzy after getting my blood drawn. It happens every time."

Nurse: "Don't be silly. It's just a little blood. You'd be fine."

Me: "Fine, don't believe me."

*Blood Drawn*

Nurse: "Okay, you can go do the X-ray now."

Me (after walking away five steps later): "Um yeah, look how I have blood down my arm now. It didn't stop bleeding."

Nurse: "Ahhh!!! Sit down! Put your head down!"

*Head spins as some tremendous pressure was put on my arm to stop the bleeding.*

Another Nurse: "What happened?"

Nurse: "Some people are just afraid of blood, I guess."

Me: +

Me in my head: "You moron. I already told you this would happen. People who are afraid of blood would not be able to raise a bloody arm into your face to tell you there's a problem."

Result - Me having a giant bruise on my arm instead of a red dot like other people.

They never seem to be able to find my vein every time they want to stab me with needles.

But then again, I have big, jiggly arms. Not a good thing I must say.

Doctors are quacks. Maybe the one who messed up probably forged his PhD by getting it from the internet

I got big jiggly arms too, but super transparent skin and lots of big veins. Also, super super pale so it adds to the transparacy

Cin- Awww! I don't get light headed normally, I just get freaked out before they stick it in and if they do it quick and don't dig in too deap or move it around too much I'll be good afterwards. But yeah, I didn't start squirting blood out of the whole or anything, but obviously I've got that huge bruise. And I can feel where the blood got all clotted, it's like...gelatinous.

Indie- Hee. He's so gentle and patient with me, so I trust him rather than cranky Muhhamad

Cubby - I honestly think other than my usual squick over getting pricked, but man...I took getting stuck 6 times like trooper for the most part. I'm super woman now, damnit! Now if only my spleen and liver would shrink back to size.

I also hate blood tests, needles, etc.
Last time they tried taking my blood that nurse stabbed me 5 times until she got the vein, even though you could see it through the skin!

Result= a blue bruis like the one in the picture, and me not having any needles puncture me in the past 6 years.

Hey, I had a bruise kinda like that but I don't know if it's from the needles or if I hit myself accidently

Ouch! I sometimes get tiny little bruises and have no idea how I got them, but they're never as massive or dark as that. I've got bony little arms, so when I bruise I can feel the sensation of the bruise down to my bones.

Mine get like that since I have tiny veins in my arms and I bruise easily. I feel your pain and anger.

Um. That doesn't look too healthy.

I'm glad you're okay now, though!

Sammy...I'm sorry to hear you had such a hard time getting blood drawn... I'm not fond of getting blood work done either, but at least I've never had the sort of problems getting it done that most of you seem to be describing...

The first post literally made me sick and dizzy. I've fainted once after giving my blood - in the shower (after I had gotten home, obviously). I was checking my arm to see if my vain had turned red (it can do that if it gets inflamed) and the thought alone made me pass out. All that sticking a needle in various spots in one's arm and trying to force the blood to come out plus the pics of bruises seriously gross me out.

OMG, I feel so dizzy and nauseated and hot right now, I think I need to go lie down.
