Party planning question

Next July is my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary and I want to throw them a small party with a few select friends and family.

Should I start planning now, like getting a prospective invitees list, list of where to throw the party, etc?

You should, since some places need advance bookings.

Yes, these things take time even if there are a few of you. What would really be great is to try and find a few old friends of your parents that they have lost touch with or are so far away that they haven't seen them in years and secretly invite them as a suprise. Obviously you would have to put them up for a night or two somewhere but you have a year to find out which of your family and family friends have a bed or room spare for that time. This will give everybody a year to ask time off from work or to organise their kids being looked after for a few days.
If it all can be done on the hush hush think of the suprise for your parents.
I remember having a great time with my sister trying to find an old forces friend of my 'other grandad' (who is actually a great-Uncle of ours..but long story) for a birthday suprise. This was 10 years ago and the internet wasn't the great search engine it is today. Anyway it took us eight months of writing around and telephone calls and through this we found another three people of their group to invite. It was worth it seeing the look on my grandad's face

You should start as earl as you can. Everything you can get off your schedule before the actual event is good, it's gonna be a lot more trouble the closer the party gets, believe me. And, if I may give you an advice, don't try to do everything by yourself. Get two or three good friends who help you. It might be more work than you'd think it would.

Hope I could help!

And during the holidays or just after, I would send a "Save The Date" card to everyone you hope to invite. Summer is always a busy time and the more warning you give people, the easier it will be for them to try and plan their vacations, etc and still attend this party.
