TV's fall season on broadcast networks has sent mixed signals

FRIDAY

The double-whammy story on this night is, first, NBC's cancellation of Southland, a cop drama that, in its smart writing and acting, held plenty of promise. (TNT snapped it up for rebroadcast in January.) Second, Medium is a success for CBS in its new Friday night slot after NBC dropped it. That's two more prime-time dramas NBC lost in its Leno gambit. The other Friday night news is the downward spiral of ABC's Ugly Betty – all signs point to end-of-season cancellation.

Network Standings
NBC, on the other hand, is an unfolding disaster that week by week just keeps getting worse. The Jay Leno Show continues to sink in the ratings at 9 p.m., and no amount of network spin can disguise the damage. The network has blown a huge hole in its weeknight prime-time schedule and there's no easy fix.

This award is a tie between the New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks. The Jay Leno Show represents everything that is wrong with network television today with its limited costs over quality philosophy. These teams represent the worst in the NBA. Watch these teams play at your own risk.

The Southland Award
To the fans of the Seattle Sonics and no, that is not a typo. Southland was a police drama on NBC that stood apart from its peers with gritty realism and complex characters. Of course, it was canceled after one season to save the network money.
Last season a promising Sonics team was unfairly ripped away from Seattle to Oklahoma City by a greedy owner. Now Seattle fans are missing out on the development of Kevin Durant just like television fans are missing out on a quality drama.

Ben McKenzie's F-bomb plot on new 'Southland' season

Ben McKenzie revealed exclusively to the Dish Rag that there will indeed be F-bombs uttered in the new season of "Southland."

And he's pretty psyched about it. As previously reported, the show is moving to TNT in January and will air at 10 p.m. Tuesdays.

Ben also promises TNT will go back into what's already been shot and make it much grittier and darker and even unbleep some words. And the new episodes will also be F-bomb-packed.
"In the first take, i'll just drop five or six to see what happens," he laughs about the now permitted raunchier language..

"You can't tell the guy holding the gun, holding up the liquor store 'Sir, will you please put the gun gown.

"You gotta say, "Buddy put the effing gun down. you muther-effer."

Ben McKenzie hits the red carpet at the GQ “Men of the Year” Party at L.A.’s Chateau Marmont on Wednesday (November 18).

The 31-year-old actor, who wore John Varvatos to the soiree, rubbed elbows with Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Stroup and spoke to JustJared.com about how his character is evolving on the recently saved Southland.

“He actually gets more comfortable in the police force, but…he’s starting to go down a little bit of a rough path,” Ben shared. “Some of the things he’s seeing on the job are starting to affect him personally and affect his ability to handle that emotionally.”
