 I’m glad the FBI never broke up their partnership when they got to actually caring about each other that intensely!

The Greatest OTPs Of All Time

Quote:

Mulder and Scully, The X-Files

Has there ever been a more perfect relationship ever portrayed on television? It's difficult to put my feelings about Mulder and Scully's relationship into a short paragraph, but dammit, I will try. These two are quite literally everything. They are friends, they are lovers, they are family, they are soulmates in both the simplest and most complex version of the word. Whether you believe they loved each other romantically or as incredibly close friends, their intense relationship is the kind of thing that changes the world. They would go to any lengths to help each other, surmount any obstacle, uncover any conspiracy. And while their relationship has caused them no small amount of heartbreak, they are still there for each other, even though years and distances may separate them. Now THAT'S an OTP.

That about sums it up  :D

I wonder if Chris Carter even had a hint of this sort of relationship they had when he created the characters or if it was because of the chemistry between DD and GA being a happy surprise that it developed on its own after the show started!

Well, when a show is that successful, and running for 4+ seasons....any writer will go for romance, no?

reason to believe 01-21-2019 11:36 AM

yeah when they need to kick things up a notch

FrellingTralk 01-21-2019 03:21 PM

It always seemed like CC was very adamant about it not being a romance, so I think it did develop as a happy surprise definitely from David and Gillian’s chemistry, and from just how close the characters of Mulder and Scully became over the years

wickedrum 01-22-2019 05:29 PM

lucky for us, and also CC. Because if not for their relationship, the show wouldn't never been as successful as it became

reason to believe 01-23-2019 09:24 PM

Yeah, it started off as platonic partners investigating supernatural cases but inevitably they got along so well and understood each other, it seemed impossible for them not to really start caring and each other becoming vital to the other!

Definitely

The trick is not to start with the romance too quickly, i.e. not in the 1st or second season. Otherwise it turns into a soap opera. Which is probably what CC wanted to avoid.
