X-Files Discussion - Why The X-Files?
Why is it that you like The X-Files? Why do you think people say its the best show ever to be on television?
---- I like the X-Files because it gave us the side of a believer in all that is weird. I, myself believe in aliens and all that other stuff...so this show was sortof like telling me it was ok to believe, because they did too. Each story just captivated me, drew me in and wouldn't let me out. I grew attached to the characters, Mulder and Scully, they became like my friends...which may be weird to say, but true. I think people say it's the best show ever, simply because it is. It was on air for 9 years, one excellent movie and now in the works for another one! It is just amazing, simple as that. __________________

I love the XF for so many reasons.
Firstly, in the case of whether I'm a believe, as Agent Reyes says, 'Well, let's just say I don't not believe'. The chemistry between the characters. My love of the supernatural. My subsequent interest in the welfare of the characters and their family as the show grew. The will-they-or-won't-they factor. Mainly, I love the idea of Government corruption, which stems from my interest in the JFK assassination/conspiracy. I'm fascinated by the idea of the powers that be having the power to cover things up - and what are they covering up? __________________

Oh wow. Why did I like the X-Files so much?
Because it was unlike anything else. Because the show taught us the whole realm of "conspiracy theories". Because it scared me senseless. Because it was such a higher level of science TV. Because it was SMART, we all had to be quick to keep up. Because of the characters. Because of how the characters grew and changed. Because of what we were an weren't allowed to see, and how we saw it through different eyes. Because it was simply, the X-Files. __________________

First off, I thought the show was extremely well written. There were very few eps over nine seasons where I found myself thinking...."They could have done a lot more with that story."
Next, Chemistry. Obviously Mulder and Scully, but most of the regulars had a real good chemistry. There wasn't much that felt forced. It was very scary, a good show that could either give you the creeps, or just outright scare the pants off you! Lastly, I think the contrast between Mulder and Scully's world view represents an argument that goes on in many of us. Maybe sometimes we drift towards needing to explain things and be skeptical. Other times, we take things purely on faith. Things we just know. I think the difference between the characters really magnifies the duality that can characterize our lives, as we try to decide what we believe and why. __________________

I don't believe it was one of the best shows on television ever -- perhaps of its time or its genre, but not of all time.
That said, it had an intriguing premise and excellent acting. The idea of a government agency investigating paranormal occurances is intriguing. The stories were good and left the audiences breathless for more. But the thing that kept it going was the chemistry between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. They brought Mulder and Scully to life with depth and understanding. You genuinely loved these characters and you saw how completely they felt for each other. |

You know, it is interesting that so many people have brought up the chemistry between GA and DD as reasons for liking the show so much. Especially when hiring the actors and actresses for a show, it's so hard to measure that intangible.

It scared me, and there wasn't much that did back then. I was 6 when i first watched x-files, and it scared the pants off of me! but i went back for more. I was a creepy little kid, to say the least. I was interested in UFOs, and just strange things in general, so the show was perfect for me. Not long after watching it, i realized i liked it for many other reasons, the actors and characters, the relationships that had developed and countless other factors. it would be impossible to pin point just one reason why i like the x-files, because there are many.

Hey there!
What is fun about why I love The X-Files is that usually, when I start watching a serie, I have to like a couple or find a man good looking to stay on it........with The X-Files, everything came after. Maybe because I was still too young to think about that. (9/10 years old) I start watching it because I was intrigued by a other form of life, the conspiracy and all the stranges things. I liked (and still do ) that show because it was funny and serious at the same time. After alllllllllll the shows I've watched and will see, X-Files is definitively THE one that will stay my favorite show. I'm buying the DVDs....and it's really expensive, but it''s a good investissement. And now...I still like all the same things....but with a good looking man (and more ) and a couple that I envy. I really don't remember why I first liked the show because I was pretty young when it started. But as I got older I realized that it had everything that makes a series great. It was smart, well-written and I actually learned things. But it also managed to be funny and draw you into the characters and what was going on in their lives. Watching the show, I always felt for Mulder and Scully, even though logically I realize the characters aren't real.
Some of the eps were legitimately scary. I still get goosebumps every time I watch Aubrey. But there was also humor and everything else a good show needs. Also David and Gillian had amazing chemistry together. Whatever their relationship off screen was like, on screen you could feel the connection between Mulder and Scully. They made them two of the most real characters on TV. |

ITA, DD and GA had tons of chemistry and it produced it on screen which made Mulder and Scully even more loveable!
The stories as many have said are amazing, so different from anything else before. __________________

Because it was different. It was a show that actually made you think...to use your mind. So many shows out now are just mindless drivel and The X-Files was one of the exceptions.
It was also a creepy show...but not really a horror show. There have been very few shows that had the ability to scare the viewers that actually lasted. The show combined so many elements...drama, sci-fi, comedy, horror, etc. It couldn't be fit into just one genre. Most shows only fit under one category, but The X-Files covered all of them and it did it with style. It had a great cast that had great chemistry together. Mulder and Scully are time and again ranked as one of the best couples ever on TV even though they were never 'together' until the very end. Also, the were other great characters...Skinner, The Lone Gunmen, CSM, Krychek. The show had a wonderful supporting cast of charcters who were very well-developed. Most supporting characters on other shows are never really developed. the supporting characters on The X-Files had their own storylines, etc that were essential to the overall idea behind the show. __________________

Originally why I enjoyed watching the show was for the great stories, as I was pretty young when I started watching they were stories about things I had never heard of or thought about before. They were generally creepy, I still remember (if vaguely) being creeped out by the episodes Eve and Squeeze and that feeling would stay with me long after I had finished watching. Basically at that time the show was great entertainment.
As I got older I enjoyed more of the different aspects of the show. I especially appreciated how the show was extremely well written and intelligent. The writers didn’t treat us like idiots by showing us everything and explaining everything in the end. A lot of the time it was left to us to decide what we thought had happened. I also loved how the show could go in many different directions; one week you could be watching an episode to do with the mythology, the next a humorous ep, the next an episode about the paranormal. Of course one of the major reasons for why I love the show is for the characters. The chemistry between David and Gillian was such a great bonus on top of what are two of the best characters to grace the TV screen. Mulder and Scully, believer and skeptic. I don’t think I could ever tire of watching these two. You generally feel for them and just want them to be happy and of course get together __________________
