You're remembering wrong then. He was mentioned in almost all the episodes, especially when Scully was struggling with a case.

He does seem more nostalgic for the show than even David and Gillian seem to be in some ways! It’s a shame that schedules didn’t work out for him to play any kind of appearance in the revival series __________________
