The 'Lone Gunmen' TV series aired during S8 of the X-Files, I think.
They then 'die' (I refuse to believe!!!) in the S9 episode 'Jump the Shark' (!). I believe this S9 epi was designed to 'tie up loose ends'.  __________________

I don't even understand why it was written - it made no sense.
 Why couldn't they just go into hiding or witness protection or something. |

As I said, I remember them coming across as frustrated and disappointed by the cancellation, so I guess they overcompensated a bit by needlessly killing them off.
But then again, many X-Files characters have 'died' and then came back, so....  __________________

I guess they just wanted to create some controversy as the show was coming to an end anyway, they 'killed' the CSM in the finale as well

Yeah I think most people assumed that it was going to be revealed that they faked their death, it was weird that they then hardly even got a decent scene in Mulder's trip

That's why I was so upset.... especially with Dean Haglund's non-disclosure tweet, and all...the whole thing was a publicity stunt, nothing more. But it could have been so, so much more. I am amazed that the writer's did that. The most optimistic thing I can come up with is that they wanted to test whether we develop these very theories we are discussing right now. I hope that it will motivate them to indeed go into that direction!!!

How can they really come back if they are dead. Or did they really die. Or did alien clones that look like them die instead? And they went into hiding, of course?

Well, you must be right now that I remember CSM did survive the inferno blast from the depths of hell.

....or they could have survived in the internet, like the character from 'Wetwired'. Maybe we will see them communicate with M&S through a computer screen? Anythings will do, really. Just no more dream sequences. __________________
