I mean Wade only really grew up once they broek up, and Zoe also learned what she wanted and that a "picture" didn't matter.

Yeah. Exactly. The one thing I really loved was their date in 4x02 right before Zoe freaked out. They toasted to being opposites. And after all that time when Zoe thought that they couldn't work because they were so different, she was now embracing the differences they had and she didn't matter because she loved him anyway.

So much could have been different. There could have been no Joel, no Vivian, no Zoe going to George which lead to Tansy leaving, etc.

No, they weren't. And once Zoe got over the fact that a boyfriend didn't have to be exactly like you to be together, then everything changed.

And she finally accepted that she did like a guy that was different to her. Zoe needed someone to bring her out of her shell and Wade did that for her.
