Synopsis
'The Romantics', a zeitgeist love story and generational comedy, takes place over the course of one night at a deluxe seaside wedding. In the vain of The Big Chill and St. Elmo’s Fire, seven close friends—all members of a tight, eclectic college clique—reconvene to watch two of their own tie the knot. Laura, played by Tyler, is maid of honor to Lila, her golden girl best friend. The two have long rivaled over the groom, Tom. The love triangle comes to a head on the eve of the wedding when the drunken friends frolic in the nearby surf and return to shore without the groom.

Writer/Director
Galt Niederhoffer, graduate of Harvard University, novelist and producer, is one of three partners at Plum Pictures. Already a successful producer of Prozac Nation and Hurricane Streets (Sundance 1997 Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematographer) prior to Plum, Niederhoffer has continued to enjoy success with films Lonesome Jim, (directed by Steve Buscemi, starring Liv Tyler and Casey Affleck), and Grace is Gone (Sundance Audience Award, Waldo Salt Screenwriting award and 2 Golden Globe nominations). Niederhoffer is currently developing her first book “Taxonomy of Barnacles” with Team Todd for Sony, with Warren Beatty attached to star.

Producers
Team Todd is the production company founded by Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd in 1997. They have been honored with numerous awards and are the producers behind such commercial hits as the Austin Powers franchise, Memento and Must Love Dogs.

They are currently in post-production on Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland for Disney starring Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp, and recently completed romantic comedy The Accidental Husband, starring Uma Thurman, Colin Firth, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Plum Pictures was formed in September 2003 by Celine Rattray, Galt Niederhoffer and Daniela Taplin. Since then, Plum has been extraordinarily prolific, bringing eight films to Sundance, and one to Toronto.

This year’s Sundance entry was The Winning Season with Sam Rockwell and Emma Roberts. It sold to Lionsgate. Other titles include: After Life (Liam Neeson), Trucker (Michelle Monaghan), Birds of America (Matthew Perry, Ben Foster) and Grace is Gone (John Cusack).
