The Music of Scrubs

So we had a brief discussion about this in another thread, but the music used in Scrubs is a big part of what makes the show, so I thought that there should be a thread just for it.

The Official Soundtrack Track Listing:
1. Superman - Lazlo Bane
2. All In My Head - Shawn Mullins
3. Fresh Feeling - Eels
4. Good Time - Leroy
5. Good Life - Francis Dunnery
6. New Slang - The Shins
7. Beautiful World - Colin Hay
8. Hold On Hope - Guided By Voices
9. Fighting For My Love - Nil Lara
10. Dracula From Houston - Butthole Surfers
11. Hooch - Everything
12. Hallelujah - John Cale
13. Have It All - Jeremy Kay
14. End Credit Score - Jan Stevens
15. Overkill - Colin Hay

What is everyone's favourite songs that have been on the show? I'm trying to download some tracks to make myself a season 2/3 soundtrack, but there have been so many I don't know where to start! So far, I've got Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers "American Girl" and "Dreaming of You" by the Coral, and I'm getting Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Do It Again" by Stroke 9 at the moment. What else should I get?

Edited: Here's a link to the music page of MOPNT - still doesn't help me know where to begin, though!

Cool! someone made a music thread, now I don't feel like such a jerk for suggesting it

Favourite songs...off the top of my head (okay and with help from the web page)

In the first season there were two songs I was absolutely in LOVE with:

"Easy tonight" by Five for fighting (My Blind date - Elliot and Cox working together)

"Hold on hope" by guided by voices (My Occurence, this is half the reason why I was crying so damn much)

Other songs....

"Tell her this" by del amitri "My sex buddy" at the end with J.D and Elliot - downloaded this!

"She says" Howie Day ("My New Old friend" playing when J.D takes care of Elliot) - downloaded this!

"Cindy" Tammany Hall NYC (played when J.D is running to Elliot in "My Lucky Night") I really want to find this song!

I better stop for now, or I'll have no more for this thread

This show has some of the best damn music I've heard

By the way, I downloaded "American Girl" and that Journey song too!

Hee, as time went on it seemed like more and more of a good idea!

Thanks for the rec's, I've been sitting here trying to think of more songs to d/l all afternoon!

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-10-2004 11:38 AM

Yeah right, you just wanted to open a new thread

Kidding

I was sitting here thinking of stuff to download too Actually, I wasn't, I was sitting here listening to Alice Cooper, NOW I'm thinking of stuff to download...

You wouldn't believe how happy I was when I found the soundtrack...okay I was on holiday at the time, and I've never seen it in the UK...*shrugs*

*~*Rach*~* 02-10-2004 11:47 AM

Heh, you got me! *sheepish*

And I wanted a shameless way to get people to tell me songs to download!

I got it from Amazon, although I think I've seen it in Borders too. I preordered it about a month before release and then they put release BACK a month! I was gutted!

Look at this conversation I had with my friend:

Me: I'm making me a Scrubs soundtrack. I have the offical one, but that was in season one! There's been two seasons worth of wicked songs since!
Her: I heard an absolutely gorgeous song on one of the eps. I think it was the last in the series they showed on telly, and could I hell find it anywhere!
Me: Well you should have said it to me! I'll find it for you!
Her: I never thought! And now I can't even remember what the song or the ep was. Hrmf.
Her: It was about ships and waves and... Yeah.
Her: lol
Me: grrr you fool
Her: I am a fool!
Me: It wasn't the one with the woman singing was it?
Her: I think so, yeth.
Her: Oh!
Her: Do you know it?
Me: I can try and find it

She's now happily downloading the song that Elaine & the cast sang at the end of My Philosophy - bless her!

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-10-2004 02:19 PM

Is that song easy to find to download? I've always wanted it, but I kept forgetting to download it...I guess I'm skeptical whether I'd find it or not. Given my bad luck with "Cindy"

Damn it, I want that song! *kicks stuff*

By the way, think they'll ever release another scrubs soundtrack?

Or is that only gonna happen in my dreams?

*~*Rach*~* 02-10-2004 02:30 PM

Go to the link I posted above, to the music page of MOPNT - they have an MP3 of it

I hope they'll do another soundtrack - after all, after only one season, it's a good start! You'd think maybe in a few seasons there'll be another - with Buffy they were around season 3 and then 7, so you never know!

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-10-2004 03:38 PM

*smacks self for not noticing the mp3 link before* thanks, I shall download that. Sadly I've only seen that episode once, which is odd because I've seen all other episodes like a million times .....

Well I know I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for another scrubs soundtrack sooner rather than later, any particular songs you would demand on that?

*~*Rach*~* 02-11-2004 08:15 AM

I think it'd have to be a triple CD with all of them on it to keep me completely satisfied!

I'd like to see Surrender by Cheap Trick on there, even though it was a season one ep anyway. I love that song.

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-11-2004 11:46 AM

That was a perfect song! I've looked for it, so far I've only found a live version, which I DON'T want

Yeah, you'd have to have at LEAST a three disc set to do justice to all the wonderful scrub music and even that wouldn't be enough *shakes head*

*~*Rach*~* 02-11-2004 12:26 PM

I already loved the song because Four Star Mary covered it and I love them So when I heard the song on Scrubs, my ears pricked up, a lot.

Their version is good too, but obviously it's not the same!

Also, I've been meaning to post this, for anyone (I say that, even though there seems to only be us two here!) who didn't see it at MOPNT a while back..

Get Keren
Those familiar with the music used on Scrubs, even the tracks used in the background, are probably familiar with the name Keren DeBerg, but probably don't know her music quite as well as they would like. DeBerg, who has been described as a mix of Pat Benatar ("Dude, she rocks"), Gwen Stefani and Shirley Manson, has finally released her long-promised full-length debut album, titled 'gone'. With 11 songs, 7 of which have been featured on the show, the CD is sure to be a worthwhile addition to any Scrubs fan's music collection.

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-11-2004 12:30 PM

Thanks for posting! I've heard some of her stuff in the background, but to be honest it hasn't really stood out to me just yet. At least not as much as some of the other stuff that's played in episodes.

Maybe I need to download some of her stuff. Have you?

Yeah, there are just the two of us here, I feel...kinda abandoned

*~*Rach*~* 02-11-2004 12:49 PM

No, I haven't yet ... I keep thinking I should, though, because soon I'll have every other song that's ever been on the show and not her things! When I was reading the list of songs on MOPNT, hers seemed to be listed as "Background Music" a LOT of the time, rather than music that *would* stand out like most of the songs do, so I'm not in a particular rush just yet!

I've gone through and made a list of the songs I want to collect together - some of them I know I have on CDs around the house, I just need to figure out which! I haven't included the ones I downloaded yesterday, though.

SEASON ONE
Away - Leroy
A Little Respect - Erasure
Camera One - Josh Joplin
Wonderful - Everclear
Fuzzy - Incredible Moses Leroy
On Fire - Sebadoh
Sinnerman - Nina Simone
Ever Fallen in Love? (With Someone You Shouldn't've) - Buzzcocks
"Attitude" by The Replacements
Surrender - Cheap Trick

SEASON TWO

"Caught by the River" by the Doves
"Something's Always Wrong" by Toad The Wet Sprocket
If I Had A Million Dollars - Barenaked Ladies
Mother We Just Can't Get Enough" by the New Radicals
Tell Her This" by Del Amitri
Waiting for my Real Life To Begin - Colin Hay (I've got the version from the ep, with the cast singing, but I really want to hear the full length version!)
"High Time" by Michael Penn
Pinch Me" by the Barenaked Ladies
"My Brilliant Feat" by Colin Hay

SEASON THREE
"Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman" by Bryan Adams
Do It Again" by Stroke 9.
"Cindy" by Tammany Hall NYC
"Bad Day" by REM
"Someone" by Tammany Hall NYC
"The Rescue Blues" by Ryan Adams
"Everything's Not Lost" by Coldplay

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-11-2004 12:54 PM

Oh, Good list, I've got to snag some of those ideas, even though I have half a dozen of those already. Scrubs is such a helper when I don't know what to download.

I love that new radicals song. I credit it in part to getting Jordan and Cox back together

Of course I'm sure they couldn't actually hear it *Shrugs*

*~*Rach*~* 02-11-2004 12:58 PM

We should give it all the credit anyway *nods*

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-11-2004 01:41 PM

Absolutely, I mean, music is the food of love.

At least I think that's right.

Any particular songs you would like to hear in the show that haven't been on yet?

*~*Rach*~* 02-11-2004 01:56 PM

Oooh, I don't know! Everything seems to fit the scenes so perfectly, the people who pick the music are doing a good job as it is!

How about you?

Oh, and I've managed to download the Cheap Trick version Surrender if you want it? We could do a swap if you like? There are a couple you mentioned you had that I haven't got yet...

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-11-2004 02:35 PM

I guess I don't have any music ideas either, I just love to hear something while I'm watching Scrubs, and going "I Love that song" like they can read my mind or something.

Like when in "My Hero" when "fresh feeling" by the eels was playing near the end, I freaked because it was both so perfect and I adore the song.

You know, I would LOVE to swap, but I'm not sure how to...or if we're even compatible for a swap...you might have be patient with me. I don't know what to hell to do at the best of times! But If I can, I would be more than glad!

*~*Rach*~* 02-11-2004 02:39 PM

Well whether we can figure out how to get them from you to me or not, I can upload Surrender onto one of my sites and you can grab it from there, at some point

I know what you mean about hearing songs you know - I was watching Buffy once and there was a song from the Scrubs soundtrack on it and I jumped up and yelled about it *nods*

I'm doing quite well for compiling my soundtrack! So far I've got:

A Little Respect - Erasure
Wonderful - Everclear
Easy Tonight - Five For Fighting
Sinnerman - Nina Simone
Ever Fallen in Love? (With Someone You Shouldn't've) - Buzzcocks
Surrender - Cheap Trick
She Says - Howie Day
Dreaming of You - The Coral
Waiting for my Real Life To Begin - Jill Tracy
American Girl - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Don't Stop Believing - Journey
Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman - Bryan Adams
Bad Day - REM
Everything's Not Lost - Coldplay

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-11-2004 02:59 PM

If You ever want to send me a private message/email, maybe we can figure things out that way *shrugs* or whatever, you seem to be doing pretty damn well yourself

I have...

New Radicals - Mother we just can't get enough
Del Amitri - Tell her this
Howie Day - she says
Five for fighting - easy tonight
Guided by voices - hold on hope
REM - Bad day
Journey - Don't stop believin'
Tom Petty - American Girl
The Doves - caught by the river
Stroke 9 - do it again
Nina Simone - Sinnerman
Barenaked ladies - pinch me/if I had a million dollars.

Maybe more, I'm too tired to look right now, though I did just download, "something's always wrong" by Toad the wet sprocket.

We'd have practically the entire list if we put our collections together!

I want that song, just because the name Toad the Wet Sprocket amuses me no end!!

Half of the ones I want are queued and I only have half an hour til the library closes, so I'll be back for more tomorrow or Friday most likely!!

~drunkenscarredangel @------- 02-11-2004 03:04 PM

put them together, then sell them on the black market

Sarah_The_Spaz 02-12-2004 08:41 AM

Kiki Jackson 02-24-2004 11:23 PM

hey does anyone know that german song that they were playing? please pm me if you do i wanted to use it for a media project
love kiley

loquacity 02-25-2004 03:15 AM

Are you talking about the episode where JD had the German patient and they were kicking around red balloons? Because if so, that's one of my favourite songs ever - Nena's "99 Luft Balloons". This is the only show I know that's played that song and I love them for it.

My personal favourite song played? Del Amitri's "Tell Her This", it's beautiful and the look on JD's face when the song was playing was heartbreaking.

In the episode that just aired in Australia, the very beginning of Simple Minds' "Don't You Forget About Me" was played, another one of my favourite songs ever, courtesy of The Breakfast Club.

Scrubs has such kick-arse music, I'd love to get the soundtrack.
