Has Charmed lost it's touch?

I love Charmed, it's a great show, but in my opinion it's been getting kind of boring lately. I mean when Pru left it got worse, but it was still really good. But then when Leo became an elder and Chris came, it just got...blah. What I'm wondering is, how are they going to connect everything so it all makes sense? I don't really like Chris, but I want to know who he is.... My dad thinks he might be Wyatt, but I'm not sure. I don't know. I'm just afraid for the show...I don't want it to go down as bad. Speaking of it "going down", does anyone know if this is the last season, a couple of friends have told me that it is, but I'm not sure. What do you think about the show nowadays?

~*~Paola~*~ 01-03-2004 08:56 PM

Yeah Charmed is great but I hate the episodes they have with the themes like "Hot Mamas" or something silly like that. It's so dumb and nothing like how it used to be before. Also they put so much emphasis on Phoebe's character ever since Shannon Doherty left, it's like it's all about her and the thought of Piper & Paige are added later on. It's just retarded. And the clothes Paige & Phoebe wear are......

Hanni 01-03-2004 09:03 PM

Yeah, I feel the same way, those special episodes are just fill-in's while they think up a way to end the show, and they're bad fill-in's by the way.

I totally agree with both of you...I loved Charmed and never missed an episode, but season 4 and 5 seemed to lack something...not necessarily Prue, (even though she is my fave and I wish she was back), but the storylines seemed to go down hill. Whatever happened to innocents...I dont think they even remember what being a Charmed one is all about. I'm in Australia and we're still waiting for Season 6 to start, and unfortunately I have to admit, I'm not really hanging out for it like I used to. After reading the spoilers for the upcoming episodes, it sounds a bit too silly for me...not like it used to be...Its getting too "Bewitched" for me...snap your fingers and it'll happen...lol

I think thats the thing... the... feel of the show changed... not jus the minus Prue thing but like... in the fist seasons everything was Dangerous and creepy... now its just like... "well if something goes wrong Paige'll just orb us out, Leo will heal us and all is well..." theres no danger or suspence there... theres no true romance either after Piper and Leo got married in season 3... theres no... passion... the chemistry changed and it feels more like a fairytale cartoon sometimes... Like don't get me wong... I love this show to death! but... I guess its just because during the break (is in Australia too) I've been recapping the first seasons... and so much has changed... even... so many loopholes emerge... and... *sigh*

lol that's all

Poor Charmed you all are so right i mean it has gone down to nothing all because Prue died (in my opinion) and i mean dont get me worng i Paige to death but Prue was much better in the show maybe not as in actress that im not sure but Prue was awesome i guess they just ran outta stuff to put on there and as for the last season thing in my opinion they should do it before the show gets worse b/c it seems to be geting worse as the season goes on but i did love last season .. but all that said i still love my Charmed and nothing can replace it i hope i dont seem like i dont like the show or anything

I think that CHARMED started going down hill in the late Season 4 episode, "Long Live the Queen". The way the writers ended the Source storyline was pure crap. And what followed in Season 5, made it even worse. Now, I don't know about Season 6, because I've stopped watching any new episodes. I guess I have no interest in the post-Cole era.

M & M 01-05-2004 06:35 PM

Yes.

It started going downhill when Prue died and continued when Cole was vanquished. The Cole story really livened up the show for those couple seasons. It's those on-going plots which always made the show interesting.

Yes, there's an ongoing plot now with P/L, Wyatt and Chris, but really it's not very interesting...it's kinda soap-opera-y.

I still watch the show because I still enjoy certain aspects of it, but the writers desperately need to think of more compelling plots.

Superabo 01-05-2004 09:02 PM

Big, fat, YES. Charmed has gone severely downhill (Power of Three Twits, anyone?). I will never forgive the writers for having Jenny McCarthy... ahem... "service" Jason Dean in freaking PUBLIC. I think the only good about the disaster of the 4th, 5th and 6th seasons is Paige. Well, maybe the concept of her character. She's jumped ship as well. Between Piper's whining martyrdom, Phoebe's self-absorbed, me me me attitude, and Paige's "I'm on a quest for independence" shtick (plus the fact that the writers feel the urge to reveal every sexual situation that the Halliwells are in), I find myself begging for Ms. Burge to return, and slay the evil Brad Kern.

Considering that Constance Burge is responsible for the lame Season 2, she can stay away as far as I'm concerned.

M & M 01-06-2004 04:25 PM

I liked Burge, because I loved Season 2. Brad Kern's earlier stuff was good, too. I think he just lost his steam.

I haven't minded this current season as much because I like Chris, but compared to the early seasons, the show has definitely gone downhill. I liked the first two seasons the best, but in S5 especially, the episodes seemed to become increasingly gimmicky (leprechauns and superhero witches in leather anyone?). That particular season was made worse by the fact that there was no overarching plotline, which is something that I think has helped S6 in its weaker episodes. Of course, Phoebe still gets too much attention (IMO) and there isn't the kind of focus on the sisterly relationship that made past seasons so powerful, so I think the show is still struggling in that sense this season.

Hope that made sense.

I don't know. But Charmed is still the show I don't intend to skip. It's still the one I'm waiting for the whole week. It's still the best show ever. It's still worth the fight between me and my brother to get to watch it and he has to go upstairs. It's still the show that leave me sigh in content. Charmed is still my favorite show.

freakygirl 01-06-2004 09:50 PM

I think the show started to suck with COLE! the story line is he's good, then bad, then died, then good, then bad, then died... OVER AND OVER AGAIN! it was good that they finally killed him off but the way they did it was really bad...the "real" phoebe wasnt even there to say goodbye.
another thing i dont like abou the show is that the girls move on with their love interest too fast. Like Phobe with cole and Piper with Leo.
Since im a BIG Chris lover, i like where the show is going, since i read the spoilers but you guys are right, the early episodes of this season were bad. the only one worth watching was "Chris-Crossed", other than that, all the other ones were horrible.

Sir Fireboard 01-07-2004 05:23 AM

Yes, Charmed has lost its touch. I think the Cole 'good/bad/good/bad' ad infinitum was the death knell for it. I mean seriously, how many times can he continue to swap allegiances before it all becomes an absolute farce?

I do have to give Julian McMahon props for doing the best he could with the material he was given though. On any lesser actor it would have been laughable.

To be fair though, it happens to all shows eventually. The trick is to know when to end it all.

For me, it's ANGEL. In fact, I'm ashamed of the fact that I had avoided both BUFFY and ANGEL for years, because I had erroneously believed that CHARMED was much better than the other two. Fortunately, I discovered that I was wrong.

i think charmed is heading toward a positive road. angel on the other hand, i totally gave up after connor went to another family and totally lost his memories and cordy becoming evil and sink into a coma. plus... i hate spike.
i refuse to give up on Chris! god i love him!

Movietime Blues 01-07-2004 07:13 PM

Just a word of caution:

When discussing the direction of the show, please remember to not post any actual spoilers or rumors. There's a thread at the Spoilers board for that purpose.

Other than that, carry on.

I'm not one of those who had any trouble with Cole's complex character. But then I'm not into one-dimensional characters like Leo. But Cole is one of the reasons why the show went downhill. In his haste to get rid of the character, Kern ended the Cole/the Source storyline in a tacky and ridiculous manner by having the sisters kill him without finding out that he was possessed. Then Kern made matters worse by having Cole become insane in Season 5. Pure *****.

But CHARMED's real problem are the Halliwell sisters. While their chemistry was fun during Season 1, their characters have failed to really develop. They're still adolescent, narrow-minded and one-dimensional after 5 1/2 years. Apparently, the only times that the show has ever really been interesting was when it focused on strong male supporting characters like Andy Trudeau, Cole Turner, and for this season, Chris. Unlike Sarah Michelle Gellar - Holly, Alyssa and Rose are not strong and talented enough to face off against actors like T.W. King, Julian McMahon and Drew Fuller, without being eclipsed. Maybe the Halliwells should become supporting characters, instead.

Sarah R 01-08-2004 12:15 PM

yeah, its kinda gone down hill this past season, alot of the eps seem to be fillers, and the whole thing with chris and how wyatt is bad in the future. who knows how the rest of the season will go.

Sassy Lady 01-09-2004 02:48 PM

I, like all of you, love "Charmed." I used to take off from work on Thursday evenings (as a chef), just to watch "Charmed." In the beginning, it was more about human sisters finding the way to learn, love, and trust each other, while being thrown into situations that tested their bond and saved innocents. I don't think the show was going down hill, after Prue died, I think it was before. It's not about the sisterhood anymore. It's about crazy story lines, that don't make sense.

Still, with the world of magic, anything can happen. It's fantasy, and fantasy doesn't make sense. It's still a place for us to escape, and besides that, I think we've all had a boyfriend we thought were demons and would like to just vanquish!

I personally disagree with you here. Holly Marie Combs acts circles, hexagons, and rhombuses around Drew Fuller. Since Drew Fuller is new to the business, I won't really blame him, but the males are not the best actors on the show. Holly is, really. I do agree with you, however, that it is the writers' fault for the show's downfall. They have strayed so off-topic that they can't seem to even remember what the show was originally about. Now it's all about putting the actresses in skimpy, horrible outfits (not to mention those dreadful costumes), and exploiting them. Oh, yeah, maybe add in some rip-offs of old fairytales and myths, and some bad plot/subplotlines, and you've got yourself an episode of S4-6 Charmed.

question? what is the MAIN plot? cause right now we are revolving around subplots...

SleepingBeauty16 01-10-2004 09:27 PM

I really thing Charmed is screwed up right now. I don't see where they are going with the show... uhh... and I hate Chris so much.

QueenÇr@zÿBella 01-11-2004 01:46 PM

This question always comes up for every show somewhere after the third or fourth season. I personally love the show now just as much as I did when I first started watching, if not more. I do miss Cole & Prue (kinda) but as those characters go (as they always do) we get a chance to know & love new characters. I love Paige, Wyatt, Chris & Pheobe's new bf (I can NEVER remember his name!) & I think considering how long the show has been going & all the storylines they've aready used, they are doing a great job.
