Maybe they filmed the pilot (it is from the pilot, right?) super early, so he looks a little younger than in later episodes.

Yeah, could be! Usually, the timing of the Pilot and rest of the season is quite a big gap. I noticed it for The Americans too, the actor looked SO different in episode 2 too.

Yeah, it happens with a lot of shows; i.e. James Lafferty in One Tree Hill. He looked like a little, bitty baby in the Pilot compared to the next episodes.
Some actors/characters are even dropped after the Pilot, never to be seen/heard from again... |
