Sophia Bush, an only child, was born and raised in Pasadena, California to Charles William Bush, an advertising and celebrity photographer, and Maureen, a photography studio manager. Bush has Italian ancestry, and attended Westridge School for Girls (Pasadena), as well as the University of Southern California. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, where she served as Social Chair. Bush attended USC for three years before landing the role of Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill (2003). In 2000, she was the Tournament of Roses Parade Queen.

Bush made her first big screen appearance in the comedy Van Wilder. Following, she made appearances in several television shows, including Nip/Tuck, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Punk'd. In 2003, she won the role of Brooke Davis in the television series One Tree Hill. The series rose Bush to fame and has recently begun airing its sixth season. In between seasons of One Tree Hill, Bush has been cast in several films, such as Supercross, Stay Alive, John Tucker Must Die, and The Hitcher (the remake). She received a "Rising Star" award at the Vail Film Festival for her work in The Hitcher. She has also won three Teen Choice Awards for her work in John Tucker Must Die and The Hitcher.

On April 20, 2007, it was confirmed that Bush will star in Francois Velle's The Narrows with Kevin Zegers, Eddie Cahill and Vincent D'Onofrio. It is reported that she will play the beautiful, intelligent and self-assured Kathy Popovich. Filming began in New York on April 24, 2007 and is due for a Summer 2009 release date. Bush is also starring in the film Table for Three, which is also set to have a 2009 release date. The story centers on a suddenly single young man, Scott Teller (Brandon Routh), who invites a "perfect couple," Mary and Ryan (Bush and Jesse Bradford), to share his large apartment. When Teller meets the girl of his dreams, Leslie (Jennifer Morrison), he believes that Ryan and Mary are intentionally sabotaging his chances with her because they desperately need him in their life to hold their dysfunctional relationship together.

It was my birthday and I was determined to get a picture with Sophia this time around. I’d met her twice before, but third time’s a charm, as the saying goes. My friends and I got to the Weekend in Wilmington event at Macy’s in Herald Square at 1:00 on January 19th, an hour before the signing. The security guard said that the autograph line was closed, and I was devastated. We ended up standing behind a big crowd taking pictures over their heads, which was the best I could hope for. A little after 4:00, when there was still a really long line, Sophia and Daphne were being forced to leave. On my tip-toes, I screamed to her, from about 10 feet away, "Sophia! It's my birthday!", while pointing to the obnoxious light-up tiara I had on for my Sweet Sixteen. While being escorted out by a mean security guard, she turned in my direction and said "Wait, there's one more girl I have to take a picture with. It’s her birthday!" The guy said “No, you have to leave”, but she said "This is the last one! I swear!" She told me to come over and I pushed my way to the front of the crowd. She put her arm around me while I was babbling on about how gorgeous she is, and she handed my camera to the mean security guard to take a picture. She then took my OTH Season 4 DVD out of my hand, signed it, and said “Happy Birthday.” I apologized for making her do this when she was in so much pain (from snowboarding) and she laughed and said it was not a big deal. I was beyond ecstatic that I finally got my picture with her, and on my birthday no less. I felt like the luckiest fan in world to receive a picture with her when it was strictly not allowed. It was definitely the best day of my life, and I will never forget that birthday present. – Rebecca (sophialove119)

If someone told me standing outside in the 40 degree weather for three and a half hours would merit meeting Sophia Bush, I would have thought they were crazy. Even after a full day of shooting, she was cheery and bright-more gorgeous in real life if possible. In her sweet, raspy voice she shook my hand and said "Hi, I'm Sophia." As if I didn't know! After blabbing incoherently, she took a picture with my friend and I and then jokingly asked after if it looked okay. She was incredible beyond words and when I met her again at the Macy's signing, I figured I'd be a pro at this. Not. After speaking 100 miles an hour and telling her I'd met her back in November, she giggled cutely and listened to my insane ramblings. I'll always remember that signing-not only did I leave the stage without getting an autograph, she knew exactly how to spell my name when I went back up! "Is it K-R?" will always be the highlight of meeting such a wonderful person. – Kristin (Fall From Grace)
I was waiting for 2 hours outside the school, I knew that Sophia was inside filming, but I had no idea if I would be able to get to her, and get a pic or anything. When I was least expecting it, she came outside. I wasn't far but not too close, my friend called to her and she smiled widely, and waved. She was SO tiny! We waited again, for a little while, and she went to the van. She was holding many things in her hand, and she was obviously in a hurry. We went to her, and my friend gave her gifts, she was so sweet, and she said "sure" to take a pic. She was very nice, and I couldn't be happier. A few days later, the last day of my trip, I went to Starbucks. Sophia was supposed to still be out of town, so there was no hope to meet or see her again. And out of nowhere, she popped in the Starbucks. I was so surprised. I saw her waiting in the line for like 10 minutes. She looked very cute, she used her phone a lot. We weren't sure to talk to her, but my friend got her order at the same time, and we left at the same time, so we approached her outside. She couldn't have been sweeter with us. My friend asked for an autograph, she even posed her drink, to sig. We asked for pics, and she said 'I look like a mess, I just got out of the shower', we were like, 'no, you look great' and she really did, like always. We took our pics, and we left, she even waved when we passed her in front of her car. She's the nicest, so down to earth, so sweet and obviously 10 times gorgeous, it was just an amazing experience. – Sonia (Soenna)

The day was January 19, 2008. It was Macy’s Herald’s Square. It was Manhattan, NY. And it was cold. Sophia was scheduled to appear with Daphne Zuniga (Victoria Davis) as part of a nationwide promotion for Season 5 of One Tree Hill. I arrived at 9AM for the 2PM signing and was brimming with anxiety and anticipation. We spent an hour or two outside in the cold and then after running upstairs with hundreds of other people, made it to the floor where the signing would take place and I stationed myself with a few other FF girls as we waited and waited and waited. The wait wasn’t so bad, we all enjoyed ourselves as we gossiped about the show and the like. As it got closer to 2PM, the atmosphere became more and more insane and tense. As Sophia and Daphne entered the area, the noise was deafening. People were screaming everywhere and it was hard to figure out what was going on. Finally, the line began to move. I was number 100, with over 400 people behind me in line. It took almost an hour to get up to the signing table. With me, I had two letters to give to Sophia, one from me and one from a close friend who couldn’t make it. As I got up to the table where Sophia and Daphne were, I basically froze. I told Daphne my name and she signed the photo and handed it to Sophia. I gave Sophia the letters and said a quick “It’s so nice to meet you!” It was difficult to truly get an experience when we were being so rushed, but Sophia was so very gracious and kind in those few seconds. She smiled radiantly and thanked me sincerely and I walked away, giddy and excited and feeling so lucky. – Leah (dolcegrazia)

I had the true honor of meeting Sophia three times in the last year. The first was on January 19, 2008 when she and Daphne did a signing at the Macy’s in NYC. My mom accompanied me for the trip and we arrived bright and early joining the already forming line wrapping its way around the building. We were joined by Leah not too long afterwards and began the wait. The endless wait outside eventually became an endless wait inside where Kristin and Molly joined the party. It became rather chaotic when Sophia finally appeared on stage, everyone trying to catch a glimpse. I believe we were only about a hundred people back in line so we were fortunate. It was all very quick and fast moving when it was finally my turn but I remember every moment. Seeing her that close, shaking her hand, it was a huge moment.
The second and third time I got to meet her was when I traveled to Wilmington for the charity basketball game a few months later in April. Upon arriving in Wilmington a security guard approached me, and assuming I was in town for OTH, told us that they would be setting up for filming that afternoon. We did a few touristy things and returned to the airport at the time the gentlemen told us. There were crowds of girls forming as word was obviously spreading they would be filming. After not much time at all Sophia and Chad came walking through like it was the most natural thing in the world to see. They were focused and on task to begin setting up the angles for the shot they would be doing. After hours of filming the same thing over and over both Sophia and Chad headed over to all the fans that had gathered and began signing autographs and taking pictures. To my horror I literally had nothing on me for them to sign other then my cell phone, which is now in a memory box with both of their signatures safely on the back. Sophia spent a considerable amount of time making sure everything was signed and all pictures were had. She chatted with everyone while doing so and was just a real pleasure to watch. I had already met her but this was different and a night I will never forget. Seeing her the next day at the basketball game too was something incredible all in itself. Her interaction with the rest of the cast, Jackson especially, was heartwarming, truly. When it was our turn to meet her in the autograph line, a good 2 hours and a couple hundred people into it, she was just as sweet and bubbly as if we had been the first ones. In both cases, I not only got to meet Sophia, but I had to opportunity to meet fellow fans and create several friendships that I will forever cherish. – Colleen (Colleen3284)

All I'm gonna say about THAT. Saying that is tempting fate though!
