I know James wanted to cut back on filming but I wish they focused on his storyline more instead of Clay storyline.

I loved that Dan was back and helping finding Nathen and we saw him interact with his grandchildren and Haley.

Any focus on Clay was a mistake, tbh, the character wasn't even needed in the first place. Even with less Nathan, they shouldn't have focused on him.

He wasn't. Julian was there to fill Lucas's place. Clay was never needed.

No they didn't, he never left permanently.

They wouldn't have know that at the time, they had every reason to believe at the time he wouldn't be back due to Antwon's situation

I think it kinda does, since they clearly felt needed too and I don't completely disagree with that.
