As is the nature of abuse. Nine times out of ten it's long term because victims feel unable to speak.

For me it was 18 years of abuse and another 3/4 years before I really started allowing myself to talk about it. I still block out a lot of my childhood, and what I do remember isn't great. It's not straightforward either. Abuse is really confusing, a lot of us question whether we even were abused. I don't know exactly how these women are feeling because I am not them and abuse is different for everyone, but I know what it has done to me and the damage it can do.
