I'll go back and watch a few later and try to remember. This season the writers have been slacking on Ben's character. He hasn't gotten much material to work with, although he acts the scenes out that he does get amazingly. He was hilarious in the last episode. I couldn't stop laughing.

I was wanting to write a Rymmer one shot... one that is a bit tragic. Would you guys be okay with that? Basically, in it Rymmer have a beautiful child and the child dies at age 6 in an accident while with Summer. Summer blames herself and falls apart, but doesn't handle her grief well. Ryan is trying to stay strong for her and keep the family together (they have another kid too), but he's stressed out and it's tearing him apart since he can't get through to Summer anymore.

Summer ends up needing to go to therapy sessions (there will be a happier ending, so don't worry).

The question is, how do you think Summer would react to her child dying under her care (probably a car crash)?

I know she's strong, but for the story to work, I'd need her to cope with it really badly (some sort of substance abuse or anorexia, etc.).

Yeah, I mean... don't get me wrong. He gets a lot of screen time and is one of the four main characters. It's just... the writers are developing the other three characters more in my opinion and giving them higher quality screen time if that makes any sense, whereas a lot of Ben's screen time is either funny (which I do enjoy of course) or only related to his job, but we're not seeing more of how the job affects his personal life and the dots haven't been connected yet regarding his childhood/past.

I'll definitely let you know if there are more angsty scenes. Have you seen the first two seasons of Southland? In S2, there is a scene where Ben is at a gun range dressed down (black t-shirt) and shooting at a target to let out his frustration. Would something like that work?

No matter how strong, I don't think any mothers does well after losing a child, I think it makes sense that she would spiral a bit so yeah, take it as dark as you want to!

but as long as you promise a happy ending

& that Southland clip is perfect!!! There are basically two storylines going on in this video, & one of them is him going after Volchuk, so it would work really well for that

do you remember which episode it was in?

I picture the way Summer first finds out is she starts to cry and then maybe she would scream and break down, fall on her knees and cry even more.

Is a one-shot like your other Rymmer fic? One chapter? Because that's what I thought one shots were.
