what they did was a first having a main cast members fate decided and not die in the ep .
Fans have to wait ,till Feb to see how he dies , chandler had his hair cut for a movie he is doing ,not sure why he posted it before the ep aired ..

The Walking Dead pulled a bite-and-switch during Season 8’s fall finale, when after getting people thinking that Lucille might have a date with someone else’s cranium, no heroes wound up stepping up to the bat.

Alas, the episode’s final moments revealed that there would be a casualty nonetheless — because Carl had been bitten by a walker in the course of transporting Siddiq.

What did original cast member Chandler Riggs have to say about the deadly twist? “Leaving Walking Dead wasn’t my decision. It was all story-related,” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Learning of Carl’s fate while filming Episode 6, a few weeks prior, “was quite the shocker for me, Andy [Lincoln, who plays Rick] and everyone,” Riggs said. “It was devastating for me and my family because the show has been such a huge part of my life for so long…. I didn’t expect for Carl to ever get killed off.”

Riggs’ real-life father, William, affirmed as much in a Facebook post. “Watching [TWD EP Scott] Gimple fire my son two weeks before his 18th birthday after telling him they wanted him for the next three years was disappointing,” the parent wrote. “I never trusted Gimple or AMC, but Chandler did. I know how much it hurt him. But we do absolutely know how lucky we have been to be a part of it all and appreciate all the love from fans all these years!”
Chandler Riggs — who will last appear in the Feb. 26 midseason premiere, when Carl dies on-screen — told THR the unexpected twist “serves a good purpose in the story,” adding: “I don’t know how Rick and Michonne are going to handle it. I guess I’ll have to watch and find out!”
I call BS , i can be sure the producers talked to chandler before the season started , they don't just had any man actor on any TV show a script and say hey ep 9 you die . Maybe chandler was told keep the information quiet ..

There had been a lot of talk about him going to college and wanting to do movies . Cant go to college when filming from march till end of October

This is NOTHING NEW. AMC and Gimple have always been like this.

He had bought a house. They’re just this awful.

Cudlitz never met Gimple in person before he got the call to tell him Abe was gonna die. Cudlitz seemed very pissed about this at a comic con recently.

This show is ending soon anyway. Put it out of its misery.

Andy confirmed everything that’s been said so.

I am pretty shock that they killed Carl off. I do not think it was planned from the start. I do believe Chandler Riggs was really blindsided by the news. Earlier this season there was a spoiler that stated that Negan was going to take Carl to live with the Saviour to punish Rick, and insure that Rick never lance another attack on the saviour's compound again.

Another reason why I feel that Carl's death wasn't exactly planned from the start was because of the flash forward. In the flash forward Carl is alive.

The pace was slow as heck. Daryl and Tara have really pissed me off the last few episodes. I am not mad or leaving the show because they are killing Carl.. I would have left a long time ago if I got enraged like that over characters dying... like when Glenn died, I loved Glenn, yet I stayed on after he died. I am thinking about giving up because this show is so slow paced... and honestly, I am tired as frack of the Saviours/Negan.. I feel like nothing was accomplished in these eight episodes at all... the Saviours are still in charge and now Rick/crew have lost The Kingdom and Alexandria. Some REAL progress would be nice.

I stopped watching when Glenn died. I see I'm not missing much.

IA, this is a show where people are dying, that's the purpose.

I also agree that the Negan/Saviour thing is DRAGGINGGGGG, call it a day already!

I would not have mind Carl dying if it was in a epic battle, or he died saving Enid/or Judith. But got bite by a walker while helping some nobody free the walker's soul. I hate when they kill off good characters and replace them with a lame character. I also am sick and tired of tuning in each week just to see Rick and company gets their ass beat by Negan. Negan already been on the show for 2 season. Now it's time for them to kill him and move on with the storyline.

I think they're gonna drag this Negan thing for one reason only: JDM is awesome playing him. They're gonna drag that **** for SEASONS.

Plus the fact that Negan is alive in the comics. I know it doesn't mean much given the latest development, but still...

They can have Negan be alive while still progressing the story at an even pace The most that really happened this half of the season was Dwight outing himself as the traitor and Carl dying Everything else is pretty much the same as it was all of last season I just feel like the last few seasons have really dragged... I don't know, maybe that is just me

It’s not you at all.

This show has become a hot mess, and it hurts me but the last few seasons have been truly awful.

It hasn’t even been renewed for a 9th season yet. They need to wrap it up.

I’m not sure Andy wants to stay for that long anyway, especially since he sees no point in continuing without Rick having his son.
