Gilmore Girls Spoilers and Speculations #51

Hi everyone. I’d like to remind you all that this is the main Gilmore Girls spoiler thread, and as such, posters from various shipper groups are free to post here, so if you see someone saying something that you don’t like about “your” favorite character or couple, don’t start fighting with them on this thread, and don’t go into a Gilmore Girls shipper thread if you don’t like the couple that the shipper thread is for. People are free to criticize upcoming events on Gilmore Girls as they read the upcoming spoilers, but don’t use this thread as a free-for-all to bash any characters or couples that you don’t like, or their fans, or you’ll find that you’ll be deprived of the privilege of reading and speculating about Gilmore Girls spoilers again here. Thanks in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

Episode 7.01 - The Long Morrow
Airdate: September 26

Writer: David S. Rosenthal
Director: Lee Shallat Chemel

The CW: THE MORNING AFTER - Picking up on the day after last season's finale, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) wakes up in bed with Christopher (David Sutcliffe). Confused and mortified, she makes a hasty exit, ignoring Christopher's pleas that she stay. Once at home, Lorelai tries to get rid of everything that reminds her of Luke (Scott Patterson) and ends up practically emptying her house. Rory (Alexis Bledel) receives a toy rocket ship as a parting gift from Logan (Matt Czuchry) and is baffled as to its meaning. She decides she should join him in London for the summer, only to learn he has bought her a ticket for a visit at Christmas. Kirk (Sean Gunn) and Taylor (guest star Michael Winters) cause a bizarre accident that damages Luke's diner. Finally, Luke shows up at Lorelai's door and asks her to elope. Melissa McCarthy, Yanic Truesdale and Liza Weil also star. Lee Shallat Chemel directed the episode written by David S. Rosenthal (#2T7751).

TVGuide: The seventh-season opener picks up where the last one ended, with Lorelai in bed with Christopher the morning after her argument with Luke. Now she faces the reality of her impulsive act and her belief that the engagement is over. She spends time with Rory, who is puzzled by a mysterious gift that Logan left her. Meanwhile, Taylor has a red-light camera installed in front of the diner, which leads to an accident that angers the already agitated Luke. Gypsy: Rose Abdoo. Lulu: Rini Bell.

  • From Ausiello: There's a very silly subplot involving Michel, Sookie and arm wrestling. Lorelai and Luke have a scene together in the premiere and it is sad. Logan's romantic gesture involves a flying object
  • From McDreamy on TwoP: Confirms that Ausiello's clue is that Lorelai and Rory spend time in a racquetball court.
  • Ausiello saw the premiere: “The weakest part is ... Lauren Graham's emotionally guarded performance.....Lorelai behaves as if she had just broken up with some poor schlub she dated for a few weeks ... rather than the love of her life", Logan leaves Rory a two-foot rocket!, C/L script change.

Episode 7.02 - That's What You Get, Folks, For Makin' Whoopee
Airdate: October 3

Writer: Rebecca Rand Kirshner.
Director: Bethany Rooney

The CW: NOBODY'S PERFECT - Rory (Alexis Bledel) is upset over Logan's (Matt Czuchry) absence and the fact that they had to cancel their long-planned trip to Asia. Wanting to cheer Rory up and take her mind off her own sad love life, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) turns her house into an Asian-themed wonderland. Lane (Keiko Agena) returns from her disastrous honeymoon. While repairing the damage to the diner, Luke (Scott Patterson) tells T.J. (guest star Michael DeLuise) about his break-up with Lorelai, prompting T.J. and Liz (guest star Kathleen Whilhoite) to insist that Luke cover over for dinner and sympathy. When Luke and Lorelai run into each other in town, Luke can't hide his anger over their breakup. Finally, Rory is furious when she learns that Lorelai slept with Christopher (David Sutcliffe). Melissa McCarthy and Sean Gunn also star. Bethany Rooney directed the episode written by Rebecca Rand Kirshner

TVGuide: Lane and Zack return from their honeymoon in Mexico, each with their own unique horror story; Lorelai has an emotionally painful encounter with Luke that's compounded by an ugly confrontation with Rory after she learns that her mom slept with Christopher; and Luke finds out that Kirk has opened an eatery that is nearly a copy of his. Fred: David Greenman. Customer: George Bell.
  • From Jet: Wardrobe requirements for Extras for 7.02 summer in CT
  • Ausiello saw the second episode: The breakdown comes in Episode 2, and it's a heart-crusher. (All is forgiven, LG!) Overall, it was another stellar outing, highlighted by Lane's big pregnancy news, two pivotal run-ins between L&L (one in a busy intersection, another in a supermarket — a real supermarket, not some cheesy set piece), yet another Battlestar Galactica reference, and a riotous "guest appearance" by Sandra Oh.
  • From Bootie: Second L/L run-in was filmed in Glendale.

Just to clear up my POV

I don’t have a problem with Luke and Lorelai breaking up as such, I agree it was not working and something had to happen. I don't agree with how it happened or even if it should have happened but something had to happen. I don’t even have a problem with April and in my opinion in the long run she will be good for Luke and Like Lorelai with Rory someone who will love him no matter what, Luke just needs to learn a few things.

What I have a problem with is how Lorelai jump into bed with Chris so quickly and I’m not talking about Partings. She goes from a 2 year romance, 1 year engagement to “dating” Chris in a matter of weeks. So she not only looses the love of her life but also 10 years of friendship with Luke.

Sorry but when is she falling on her face? The longer this goes on the higher she climbs so it’s gonna be one hell of a fall when it comes!

OT Zach Moment – oh my God there is going to be a third FOX Sports!

Thanks for the new thread Caf!

Wow, so much turmoil from an epi descrioption that to me was not really all about getting new info.

Later, when Michel forces Lorelai to attend Emily’s beautiful cotillion dance, Lorelai discovers that some things her parents wanted for her weren’t really that terrible. So the woman discovers some things her parents wanted for her weren't really that terrible ... Seems sensible to me to finally accept that ... or were E&R really that devil-like all along? I don't think so. It doesn't state that she is suddenly all for the E&R kind of life, she merely recognises their intentions might not have been that bad. I like that! New to me is the dinner between Chris and Rory ... nice ... I like that also.

Oh and I agree this isn't about Luke, nope ... this is about Lorelai starting to grow up, she might fall flat on her face by doing so, but she will learn! And yeah she will also learn from her relationship with Chris or well, the failure of it ...

All it said was she discovers that some things weren't really that terrible ... I don't see the 180, I feel people are creating a 180 ...

I feel because you don't look at the possibilities. I feel you are only looking for confirmation of what you are afraid of (them not ending up together or not when you want to ...) we already know there ain't gonna be a quick fix, you could look at this SL differently, but sure you don't have too or even want to. Some are seeing the actual possibilities that will lead to Lorelai growing up some and that could lead to her being able to finally have it all with Luke ... Both are on seperate Journey, that I believe will lead to them making it together ...

Where were all these complaints when Emily ACCEPTED LUKE? Was that not a 180? The silence would make San Fransisco reporters seam deafening.

Someone please take down the names of the posters who are upset b/c Lorelai realizes Emily isn't Jon Lovitz' inspiration for his Mestophiles skits. After all, those posters DON'T want Lorelai to make peace with her parents--despite spending all last spring saying that that should be the focus of S7--after the LL marriage, in 6.22.

The FANS are getting what the FANS demanded: the Lorelais' relationships with their parents (the father-daughter dinner, remember? Chris BEING THERE FOR RORY) being addressed and the FANS howl.

Why should E & R be surprised that Lorelai broke up--she was waaayyyy closer to the alter with Max, and look how that ended. Even Sookie assumed that Lorelai would (FF) or had (FNAFF) screw[ed] it up. E & R (and everyone else) expecting LL making it to the alter would be non-organic, based on Lorelai's past.

Here is a thought: maybe if Lorelai learns that her parents aren't her enemy, she might, maybe, figure out that Luke is supposed to be her partner--not the guy she uses the BFOTB to keep away from her during wedding prep.

Everyone may now resuming complaining because the FANS are getting what the FANS wanted.
Simply quoting this one, because I feel it is a great post ... I felt it deserved a spot on the new thread

And great posts Sandra & Lemon !!!

But not only questioning it but thinking it is better. That I dont get. /rant
I haven't seen any indication that she thinks it is better. She does question it, yeah sure. Seems like that time has finally arrived. Things are not really going well for her I would think. So she questions things, seems like the right thing to do. How many times, this is in general, have posters stated that Lorelai has Issues when dealing with emotions, many times people have made arguments that this goes back to her childhood and the feeling of disapproval and never really truely feeling accepted and not being very good in value-ing herself. So for me this is sort of trying to deal with these Issues from the root. Back to the basis of where I think her being an emotional mess-up was caused. Her relationship with her parents ... how she perceived her parents didn't accept her for who she was. Maybe she was wrong and she can finally accept some things or at least redefine her relationship with her parents. Not just going against them, but actually trying to understand where they are coming from. Not feeling that anything they say is just to show again how she is a dissapointment, but accepting their parents might have opinions that don't neccesarily have to be seen as a reflection of their dissaproval of her. Letting go of the past and focusing on a healthy relationship with her parents right now. Discovering that even though they might not agree with all of her decisions that does not necesarily mean they don't love her.

Katie, I think this is a good thing as well! And some others apparantly think the same

Thanks for the thread, Caf.

"....When Richard (Edward Herrmann) and Emily (Kelly Bishop) have no real reaction to the news of her break up with Luke (Scott Patterson), Lorelai (Lauren Graham) suddenly realizes that most of her emotional life has been based on doing and feeling the opposite of whatever her parents want...."

According to this, she must be initially baffled and confused even more about what to do and how to feel, because, what is the opposite to "no real reaction" about Luke? How does she do and feel the opposite of that?

For me, any SL involving interaction between Emily, Richard, Lorelai (and Rory) is a celebration, even if I might disagree with what this character or the other says or reacts or does.

I think Lorelai probably expected E & R to (figuratively speaking) whoot and dance and say "we told you so" about breaking up with Luke, and when they don't celebrate and rub it in, (since IMO they've also changed a bit, growing more accepting,) she'll realize she can and wants to take another look at what they themselves and even "their world" can offer her.

She'll finally let go of the need to automatically fight and resist every single thing Gilmore ( not to confuse, hopefully, with letting go of those witty sharp tongues she and especially Emily wag at each other - I hope that stays). And, I do hope it'll soon be reaffirmed to all involved, if any doubts had crept in momentarily, that Luke was definitely not some antagonistic response to her parents and their world, and that he is THE ONE, something that I think Emily will help Lorelai clearly realize a bit further down the line.

I think I may start shipping Luke and Susan!

- SWIMMERS
- POOL PALS
any other ideas

Luke needs to be happy also, he was humiliated by Lorelai screwing Chris hours after just leaving him in the street like that.

I just don't see ANY valid reason Luke will look at Lorelai ever again after what she did and then starts dating Chris, maybe a proposal and wedding, what next she has his baby before she wakes up to the fact she doesn't love him like she loves Luke.

I know it's gonna take a lot of time, maybe the whole season before wee might see them back, it's also sad that I won't be re wathcing this season as much as the last and that was WAY down on season 5.

I would go for Pool Pals, Craig ... we would have the BBs and the PPs ...

Back to some psycho-babble:

Lorelai needs to start thinking about what she wants! I don't think she ever truely did that before. In her relationship with her parents all she did (with a few exceptions and I believe those were the most touching moments between Lorelai and her parents ...) was simply rebel. It was no reflection of how she truely felt, nope, simply going against whatever they stated ... you say black, I yell white !!! Once Rory was born, most if not all decisions were made with Rory in mind, not necesarily herself. And I feel from the moment that Rory sort of spread her wings and started to make decisions on her own, Lorelai is sort of lost. She can't speak up for her true self, because I don't think she really has ever done that. In the years, of being an adolescent, where most teenagers/young adults figure out themselves to a certain extent, she was already a mom, she didn't have the time to figure out who she was and what she wanted, because she was already making decisions with Rory in mind. Adolescence is in a way a selfish period, a natural one though ... trying to figure things out on your own. No help from others ... you try things out ... you mess up, sure ... hell, some even steal a boat But this is an important part of growing up, the defining of who you are, developing self-worth, a sense of self. Lorelai, I guess, is starting this period a little late, because of circumstances. Her exploring a relationship with Christopher can definitely be seen as part of this.

And I do find the use of the word exploring DR and LG used in regards to the relationship with Chris interesting ... since one of the experts in developmental psychology, Erikson, uses the word exploration in this matter like this: Exploration is at the heart of the adolescent transition. Exploration is the identity crisis. The remaking of personal identity, which is necessary to complete the transition, was said to be dependent on exploration. It's a time of intensive analysis and exploration of different ways of looking at oneself.

I guess both Lorelai and Chris will come out of this with a better sense of self. Or well so I see it ...

Whether I agree with how Lorelai reacted in the rift with Rory is besides the point on this one (well, for me). Rory did come out with knowing more about what she wanted and all. She had to figure things out on her own, because Lorelai didn't support her in figuring things out. I like the parallel with now having Emily and Richard in some way leaving Lorelai clueless and with the option to figure things out by herself. By not giving a clear response to the news of the break-up with Luke, Lorelai doesn't know how to feel about this or react to this, normally she always got, even in a negative way, feedback from Emily and Richard. This time she will have to figure it our on her own, since Richard and Emily took the option of rebelling away from her. I love this !!!

End of the psycho-babble ... back to being a fan of GG ... 4 nights of sleep and the first new epi of the season !!!

Eh? "When the going gets tough ... the tough get going."

I'm sticking it out. Even if it takes till May. Someday this show will get back on track.

We might have to use up the whole alphabet first, lol. Semantic kudos to blaab for PPs. There are worse ways to start.

Oh wait Caf, I am not rooting for the PPs ... I just like the ring to it. That was all I was saying ... for me watching this show ain't even tough at all. I feel no need to go anywhere I am even very happy to stay put ... if I would ever label myself with some kind of ship, it would be a Sophie & JJ ...

Well, just the idea makes me all giddy inside ... it does need to be some inheritence from somebody really old or some family member I don't really know well

MissClooney, may I ask where you are from? Since I noticed it was also 3 AM last night for you, when it was also that time for me ...
