FROM DEADLINE 5/24/21:

Tom Swift, a spinoff of Nancy Drew, remains in consideration. The CBS Studios/Fake Empire-produced project did not do a traditional backdoor pilot; instead the character Tom Swift, played by Tian Richards, appeared in a Nancy Drew episode, and the network also ordered a pilot script. I hear the CW could potentially order a stand-alone pilot based on the script as part of its series consideration.

Because that flashback to her meeting Nick seemed to suggest she still has feelings for him.

Yes, unfortunately. She should be single. Owen just literally died like 3 days ago show-time.

I think the main purpose of the flashback was the re-establish certain elements in the past that might not have been obvious otherwise in the episode (if there was no flashback...would you be able to tell Nick/Nancy even had a thing other than when Nick/George talked about it in the one scene and even then...). Also, to show how things were WAY less complicated back then (Nancy sees a cute guy and hooks up with him to forget her mom's death). It was also a plot point for the Nick/George relationship because they obviously don't want to hurt her. Unfortunately, that's probably unavoidable and Nancy will probably take another hit on top of everything else going on. It's going to be one more layer thrown onto her identity crisis.

I guess Nancy could still feelings for him, but she was also ready to skip town with Owen just days ago. Nancy's all over the place. Her MO is using casual hook-ups to run away from her problems. I'm not sure how deeply she felt for Nick or Owen because she really didn't trust either of them. And without trust, any kind of relationship is not going to last anyway which is why she needs to be single for a while and figure out what she really wants. She also needs to talk to someone (possibly a therapist) about everything she's feeling instead of burying it.

I just hope the show deals with everything correctly because I am not here for some elaborate love pentagon or whatever. Let Nick/George be. Play the ridiculous Gil thing out as fast as possible. Have Nancy be single while slowly heating up the Nancy/Ace relationship. There's no need to make this show super soapy again like it was at the beginning.
