6x17 - A Bird In A Gilded Cage - March 19th

DAMON TRAVELS TO THE 1903 PRISON WORLD — With the help of Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Kai (guest star Chris Wood), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) set forth a plan to rescue Damon’s mother Lily (guest star Annie Wersching), who is trapped in the 1903 prison world. Meanwhile, when Caroline's (Candice Accola) plan for Stefan (Paul Wesley) backfires, she is left to pick up the pieces. Elsewhere, back at Whitmore College, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Alaric’s (Matt Davis) attempt to reel Caroline back in doesn’t quite go as planned when they realize they're outmaneuvered. Lastly, an unexpected gift from Bonnie leaves Damon shaken to his core.

if that doesn't tell JP and co they're doing a terrible job idk what will.

What should be done at this point is firing the writing team.

Honestly. This needs fresh blood. The characters are great at core. The actors are competent. They are able to perform way above what they are given in the script. Just... the scripts...

I do not like to say this but it is my honest opinion.

For starters they should probably get a head writer that can keep consistent mythology going and cares about creating an overall plot for the season. The show was bad pre-Caroline Dries taking over but it's been so sloppy under her especially. Then they should get someone who cares about the character development and not just the romance.

But honestly I think the tvd writers cater to their audience in a sense. They clearly play into the fact that this fandom is made up primarily of shippers and that's what made it successful (online anyway, which apparently matters more to CW than ratings). I don't think they care that it's basically fanfic at this point because Dries herself has joked about it.

The show went downhill when they made Damon/DE forefront and sacrificed every character/relationship/logic/quality writing to do so. Not even saying that as a previous biased stefan/se fan. It's just true.

In the same sense that a people has the government it deserves, a show has the fan base it deserves.
