As far as the first picture goes, I was never really a fan of the Gene Deitch era. It's like a whole new direction as opposed to the Hanna Barbera/Chuck Jones era.
One thing that stands out to me of Tom and Jerry as opposed to many cartoons (not counting silent era cartoons) is that there is very minimal dialogue and that the music is like the dialogue itself (Watch the episode Jerry and Jumbo, especially the scene where Tom confronts Jerry about the disappearance of his milk from the milk bowl). |

The Chuck jones era of Tom and Jerry is the best for me.

I miss this show. I think the concept of Tom & Jerry not talking was beyond my realm of thought as a child, but I appreciate it more now.

Interesting enough, it's usually secondary characters that speak regularly (Mammy Two Shoes, Spike, Jerry's relatives, etc.)
Tom and Jerry do speak but it's pretty rare. |

Nice avatar!
I do remember them speaking every now and then, but yeah, it wasn't very often. |

Tom usually speaks when he's singing last I checked. The whole "Texas" song is the only thing I could recall. I know Jerry spoke in the "His Mouse Friday" episode when he posed himself as an African Savage to throw Tom off.

I'll have to respectfully disagree. I actually like the whole "action speaks louder than words" and just let the music do all the "talking". The usual screams that Tom or Jerry do are perfectly fine.
Cartoons these days don't have the whole minimal dialogue thing going on. |

Yeah, I think the show's better when they don't talk. What they're doing explains enough of what's going on

Has anyone seen the uncut version of His Mouse Friday (the one where Jerry goes blackface as one of the savages in the island in order to scare Tom)?
The reason why I say uncut is because the ending is always cut off. |
