I always stay
home on New
Year's Eve. It's
just that, sometimes,
it's not my
home, you see.

The big plan
is to watch
all of the
year end programs.

A night of
watching TV is
about as exciting
as it gets
for me, see.

relaxed knowing ya'll
will be home.

I worry, truly.

Okay, I get
that, being away
from home, but
off the streets.

Random tv stuff

The roads are
fine here, so
there's no need
to worry. Everyone
is completely safe.

And, as I
understand it, your
end of the
year TV stuff
is pretty much
just the ball
dropping, isn't it?

Here, there are
TV shows after
TV shows. Musical
reviews, news satire,
sketch shows, etc.
It's a huge
night of different
kinds of shows.

And, of course,
plenty of people
also don't watch.
But we always
have, in my
family, so that's
what we're doing
this year. Except
for my brother,
who's in Ontario,
where all they
get is your
ball that drops.

Here, New Year's
Eve is all
about the comedy.



I mean, celebrities
and music are
also present. But
it's a night
of programmes looking
back at the
year with satire.

For instance, I
saw the most
awesome interview with
an older French
lady, looking back
on how the
year began with
the Charlie Hebdo
shootings and ended
with the massacre
in Paris, right?

So they raised
a toast to
2016 bringing more
peace to everyone
and this lady's
100% unprompted toast
was something completely
unrepeatable but that
boils down to:
"Screw the morons."

It just feels
nice to look
back on the
year that's ending
and then look
forward to the
New Year with
a good dose
of humour. It
keeps things in
perspective for me.



I'm gonna have
to find a
way to use
that toast at
some point in
the future, though.

at our house.

I love the
idea that anything
can be made
better with humour.
Even terrible events.

Anyway, that's our
New Year ritual
if you can
call it that.

We watch loads
of TV and
then we go
to bed. Thank
goodness the first
is a federal
holiday because I
can't imagine I'd
be very productive.
