yes, of course. human Stefan and Damon, relatively speaking they were babies then. they loved each other yes, and it was pure, but it was an untested "love"

Alaric was the first to notice there was something wrong with Damon when he hit the wall. nobody else did in fact! they still look out for each other, even under dire circumstances. Damon was quite happy as well to leave Alaric safe behind at the house.
