Which is so strange b/c if I remember right LOST was one of those shows that decided when they were gonna end. They weren't canceled. So they had plenty of time.

I am guessing initially they didn't expect it to last so long, and made some stuff up as they went along, and then come the end didn't know what to do with them?

Could be. at least I'd hope they weren't like the HIMYM people who had decided on an ending before the series even ended.

Yeah, they decided long before that season 6 would be the last. And I knew from past interviews how meticulous they were with the jumps in time, character arcs, etc. But the finale was still unsatisfying in many respects.
