Yes I did. But I'm conflicted about it. As a stand-alone horror movie and a Stanley Kubrick film, it's a masterpiece. As an adaptation of a Stephen King novel, it sucks. It strays so far from the book it might as well not even be called 'The Shining.' It misrepresents the characters and the story, and misses the point of the novel entirely. But other than that, it's great.

To hell with the original novel. Stephen King isn't a serious writer. Kubrick's film was incredible. Best horror film ever.

No whatever. Stephen King doesn't count. Kubrick was a genius. The Shining is great.

the problem with slow tension building movies is that once you know what happens, there's absolutely no point to or joy in watching the movie again

That's nonsense. The movie can be appreciated endless times. It's how it's done, not what happens that matters.

I'm with sum1. I've watched The Shining, Alien, Halloween, and countless others over and over again, and I can still enjoy them.
