I was originally going to use a pic of the interior of the Xavier Institute with the X-Men characters all hanging out and stuff, but I couldn't find anything and I didn't really have time to look was it as late and I was tired. So I went with this exterior photo for now. Maybe one day if I do find an interior shot that looks cool I'll replace this one.

Did anybody catch Anne Hathaway's posturing over the murder of Nia Wilson? For those who don't know, Nia was an 18 year old black woman recently mudered by a white man. Anyway, Anne Hathaway hijacked the incident on Instagram to make a big pose of being righteous, blathering on about white privilege. Nia's only recently dead, isn't it too soon for privileged celebrities like Hathaway to try to profit off her death by striking poses?

I just saw that, sum1. OMG, how many people are murdered in this country and around the world all the time? Yet this crime is different, how? After getting all the hate from Hatha-haters, Anne really didn't need to do this to her reputation. It's right to call out the injustice of a woman who got fatally stabbed, but for Anne or anyone to start blathering about "white privilege" just because the attacker was white and the victim was black is nonsense. What about the Asian man, Ki Suk Han, who was pushed off the platform of a subway by a black man, Naeem Davis, and run over by an oncoming subway train in New York City? Or Justine Damond, an Australian woman living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who was shot and killed by a Somali police officer, Mohamed Noor, after she called 911 to report an attempted rape near her home and was then shot dead as she approached the police car?

I feel terrible for what happened to this woman, but acts of violence happen all the time. Stabbings and shootings happen all the time to people of all races. Why all of a sudden does this one become a civil rights issue? They don't even know the motive behind this attack, or if it was even a hate crime or just some crazy psychopath. According to the reports, the attacker is a parolee with a long criminal record and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, so how does that make him representative of all white people?

Well, it may have been a racially-motivated killing, which is serious. But it bugs me that when you google "Nia Wilson", you get a bunch of pictures of Anne and a bunch of articles about Anne's Instragram post. She's successfully hijacked this woman's death as a means of grabbing attention for herself. That stinks. It's so hypocritical. (I just googled again and there's now less pics of Anne and more of Nia, but so many of the articles are still about Anne's post and the first pic on the page is still Anne.)

We do not know if it's a racially motivated killing. All we know is that Anne Hathaway is making it one, and ignoring the facts of the case, which are that the man has a long criminal record and is also bat- crazy, and it is irresponsible of Hathaway to start making this a racially charged issue or calling out "white privilege." This wasn't even a police-involved incident! So every time some white psychopath kills someone who isn't white it's a hate crime? What about Jeffrey Dahmer, or Ted Bundy, or the Zodiac Killer? Are they all examples of white privilege? Anne needs to check her celebrity elitism.

Well, I think a lot of black people were worried the crime wouldn't be taken seriously enough if it wasn't focused on, because historically murderers of black people are hunted down less well and treated more leniently than murderers of white people. But Anne Hathaway is getting people to focus on Anne Hathaway. Kind of "Look at me! I'm a GOOD white person! Amn't I saintly!"

Exactly. Anne is just playing to the crowd. And while I feel sad for what happened and I have nothing but sympathy for the girl's family, they're making this crime a lot more than it is. This happened in Oakland, California, not someplace in the south. This was the third violent stabbing in that area in the past month. The attacker has a criminal record, was let out of prison on parole, and has schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. No motive has been found by police and no connection to any hate groups has been found. Anne Hathaway is yelling fire in a crowded theater.

I think it was a very calculated attempt to make herself look good and put herself in the public eye. People should certainly address serious race issues, but not for the sake of boosting their personal profile.

I agree. That's why I can't stand celebrity social justice warriors. They don't care about facts or due process, just the court of public opinion and social media.

Some celebs are sincere when they champion causes, but for a lot of them it's more about themselves than about the cause. Celebrities include some of the most self-absorbed people on the planet.

Some celebs, yes, but the Twitter junkies I don't trust. Hathaway made a baseless accusation without any facts and is now making this a racial thing. She didn't even wait for the police to release their findings about the attacker's criminal record or his history of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. She just saw that it was a white guy and immediately went on the "white privilege" attack, which is no different from blaming the entire Muslim community every time there's a terrorist attack, even if they don't know if the attacker is a Muslim or not.

The tone of the post bothered me. She was building it up into a big performance. If it'd been an acting piece it'd be hamming. That to me suggests it was about Anne Hathaway, not Nia Wilson.
