WTF? What about all the people who read about them in comics as kids? The New Mutants went for most of decade. That's a lot of people's childhoods.

That's exactly what I'm objecting to. My point is you don't have to be a dedicated Marvel reader at all to have some familiarity with those characters. Reading some comics as a kid hardly makes you a dedicated Marvel reader.
