One last statement, because the matter is so important, then I hope we can drop the Troy topic: I acknowledge your concerns Rita. They're valid. Yes, harping on race too much can divide people. It's important to see people as individuals first and foremost, not groups. That said, I still don't think this sort of situation is one of those where it's a problem to acknowledge race as one of the many things that define a character in a work of fiction. Ok, I've said my bit.

I watched Veronica Guerin (2003). I'd seen bits of it before, but not the whole thing. It's a film about a significant incident in 1990s Irish history. The journalist Veronica Guerin was exposing drug crime in Dublin and the criminals shot her dead. In 1996. It had a big effect on law and order in Ireland. For a time at least. The film is hampered by the fact that they've cast Cate Blanchett as Veronica. Cate couldn't pass for Irish if her life depended on it. She doesn't look at all like an Irish person. Her manner isn't right. But the film has a lot of Irish actors doing good work, plus a good dose of Irish music. Ciaran Hinds is in it. Colin Farrell has a marvellous cameo. It's a good film and quite affecting.

Also watched Venom recently. It's done on kind of a low level, but it's good because it gives Tom Hardy great acting opportunities and he's marvellous. The Venom stuff is fun too. And it's a great relief to see a comic book movie that's not made for kids.
