Musicals ~ West End, Broadway and beyond

Well, I followed Nele's advice & started this thread.
Wow - my first day (active, that is) and already posting a thread.

So, who wants to talk to me?
Let's find out who likes Musicals - and which ones. And maybe even why.
I am looking forward to tons of discussions about it!!

I hope you'll find some Musical lovers very soon to chat with

I've only seen 1 musical in my life so I'm not really an expert.
I saw King Arthur, I had a bad seat so I couldn't see most of the acting

Awwww, that's sad.
Well, I will visit NYC in May & then see some things.
So far, I've seen some musicals last time I was in London's West End.
Guys & Dolls, starring Ewan McGregor & Jane Krakowsky for instance.
Where I live, we only get the ... hmm ... 'commercial' Musicals, like Andrew Lloyd Webbers things.
Not that they're bad ... they're just ... annoying, sometimes.

Well here in Belgium all the singers sing in Dutch so that's annoying I want to see the original version... I guess I'll actually have to go to Broadway to see some good stuff

Thanks for starting this thread

I've seen Cats years ago when they came to my city. I wanted to see The Boy from Oz but I didn't like the venue.

*lol* really sounds like bad luck.

Well, I'll be in NYC in May this year, watching a new musical called "LoveMusik".
It's about Kurt Weill & Lotte Lenya and *the* Donna Murphy will play the lead.

I haven't seen Lion King, but I've heard lots about it. Maybe I'll put it on my list once I'm in New York.
I want to see "Drowsy Chapperone" (spelling?) but I don't know what else.
There are just too many.

Nele - it's just the same here. We get the 'big hits' translated and that's that.
How boring. I SO want to go & see the originals!!

Hmm... maybe I'll go & see "A Chorus Line" ... wish I'd have been around when the ORIGINAL Original Cast still did it. ... But I wasn't even born back then.

Hey guys! Yay, someone actually started the thread I suggested!

I absolutely adore musicals. While I wouldn't call myself a hardcore fan (mostly because, here in Toronto we only get the big-name musicals - I've never heard of a lot of them that play in NYC), but I love them nonetheless. I saw Beauty and the Beast twice when I was younger. Then I saw Rent when the touring cast was here in May - amaaaaaazing! And I went to see Wicked, because a friend of mine recommended it. Well, I saw it, fell in love with it, and went back another time with a different friend!! We stage-doored and everything, haha. Such a wonderful show. And I'm seeing Phantom of the Opera at the end of Feburary!

I'm also planning a trip to NYC for February of next year, and one of my sole reasons for going is to see musicals.

So glad there's a thread to talk about this!

Shifting the convo over here from the now closed Music board musicals thread--

So saying some stuff that I said over there-

Recently I saw Spring Awakening, and cannot explain how much I love that show. Wonderful music, exceptional actors.

And saw Les Mis revival cast last night, Amazing. Everyone in the cast was very good. I'm still in complete awe over it.

Also found my Miss Saigon cd earlier...I love that show so much, there are so many reasons why it is my favorite.

And saw The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee tonight, I had seen it awhile ago with the original cast and it was so good and so funny. Tonights was good too but I loved the original cast. Especially Jesse Tyler Ferguson!

I've only seen a few musicals mostly stuff like Guys & Dolls, and Fiddler on the roof done locally (But very well) in Memphis. Anyway I recently saw Spamalot which was AMAZING. It was hilarous and very very good.
