Blame the fact that the Habs are in a semi-final for the first time in... forever, it seems.... for the title.
All the network stuff for the computer was done on the laptop. Like, our IT people can connect to it and do their thing remotely. I struggle putting the actual hardware together, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to cope with those kinds of things. I don't even have a smartphone! Only a half-day at work for me tomorrow. I have a dentist's appointment that won't take that long, but I figured I'd take the afternoon off anyway. My sick days are non-accumulable or whatever, so I might as well take them here and there. And, after that, I took the two Fridays off, so it's two consecutive three-day weeks. How are you doing? Any plans? __________________

Considering how sunburnt I feel right now, I would say so.
I mean, I was wearing SPV 60, so it remains to be seen whether I actually am sunburnt, but I feel like I am. That's what I get for not going out ever and having lunch in my brother's back yard, even if under an awning. __________________

I'll correct your name right now.
Joyeuse St-Jean to you as well. I also took Friday off. Wasn't sure it was worth it at first but, considering I woke up at 11 am today... I think it would have been hard to be functional tomorrow. __________________

Yeah, Annie was at the game. She was offered a ticket by one of her friends whose husband decided to go on a fishing trip with friends. That's a guy who either isn't into the Habs too much or who will spend the rest of his life talking about this error in judgment. They showed excerpts from the St-Jean show on the big screen for an hour after the game since it "wasn't safe" to let the spectators leave the arena with the crowds outside being dispersed by the cops.
I saw footage of the cops dispersing the crowds, too. Wasn't subtle or pretty. And, again, I get it. They upturned a cop car. But it's always interesting to see just how quickly the Montreal police can cede the moral high ground. I can only imagine how low everyone would have been if we hadn't won that game. I mean, on freaking St-Jean and all. It seemed like an appointment with destiny. We'll see what happens next. I barely remember the Cup in '93. It would be insane to go through that again in my lifetime. I didn't think that would happen. __________________

oh wow! glad Annie got to see it it was a memorable game that fans will remember for years to come.
yeah it was pretty bad. some stores downtown put up boards as a precaution. i don't remember much from the 93 cup. only 4 wins away now! i went to my hairdresser for the first time since the pandemic started. great to have a fresh cut. __________________

Annie got to experience it, but she didn't exactly see it. They were seated near the opposite goal at the time. They understood very quickly what had happened, so the excitement was real, but they missed the exact moment.
I honestly don't understand why people feel the need to destroy property when the Habs win or lose. Knowing that it's what happens, I did expect the rioting, etc. But I don't understand why people can't mess up the streets and leave cars and shops alone, you know? It's been a bad enough year for most people, and especially small business owners, why make it worse? And, having said all of that, I still think the cops make it worse by treating it like a war zone. I barely remember the 93 Cup, even though I'm old enough to have experienced it. Of course, I was still in the Eastern Townships at the time, so I experienced it at a distance. It's not the same. I've been cutting my own hair... I mean, not an actual haircut, more like cutting off split ends and knots, but Annie's giving me a haircut next month when I go in for my second vaccine. She can do it all. And, honestly, pandemic no pandemic, and if she doesn't mind, I think I'm gonna stick with her haircuts. I keep my hair long, so the cheapest salon cut is usually too expensive for my budget, which means I can go very long without being able to afford the next one, so... With Annie, I might have a shot at having healthy hair again. __________________

it's an amazing feeling to celebrate with other fans.
i think it's the crowd effect. people do stupid things as a group. ahh i see. Annie is talented yeah some places can be so expensive. that's why i go to the same place for the past 20 something years. my hairdresser is aging and could retire anytime now. but the price is good. he doesn't do trendy haircuts but overall it's fine. __________________

I think the victory/defeat riots are absolutely a result of the general IQ going down the bigger a crowd gets. But I also think there are opportunists who like to take advantage of crowd movements to destroy stuff. And I think the police response doesn't help, because it pisses off or freaks out bystanders.
I used to go to a salon at Place Atwater, but my hairdresser there moved. And now it's a bit of a detour to go there, so it's been a whole thing. I'm fortunate that Annie likes doing this sort of thing, or I would feel like I'm imposing. In fact, chances are I will still feel that way, regardless of how many times she assures me she enjoys herself. I'm watching a French documentary on Winston Churchill and it's always hilarious to me how we really don't count for anyone. This historian went on and on about how England fought off Germany for two years - by itself! And I'm sitting here, thinking, well, hang on a minute there. "England" was only alone in that fight if you don't count Canadians, Scots, Welsh, Indians, South Africans, Poles, Australians, New Zealanders, etc. who were also fighting. And I get that England was the country the Nazis were bombing actively... but the national makeup of those fighting back was richer than "just" English. And I'm not even talking about the Resistance movements up and down Europe. And that two years... Like the only timeline that matters is when the U.S. entered the fray. Guess who else started fighting back against Germany in 1941? Russia! Not a fan of Stalin, personally, but 20 million Russians died in World War II. They were there, too! Gah. Why do I always get so annoyed over ancient history? __________________

I love history and politics and all of that... I hope I've proven on this thread and on this board in general that I am able to talk about other things... but on my own time? Those topics do occupy a good chunk of my time.
As I say that, I'm watching an HGTV show about old-home restorations, so... I'm a regular Renaissance woman, me. I mean, that's not really about history just because it's old, right? Right? Only one more day before anohter four-day weekend. Can't wait. __________________

old doesn't always make history. i don't have HGTV. i think i'd like home restorations. i find restoration video fascinating. i find myself watching people restoring game consoles and being able to see the inside of the devices. oh yeahh i'm doing another 4 days weekend as well i was just approved for Friday. __________________
