Wow, that's just beautiful!

Now and then I see some Great spotted woodpeckers at my parents' house, but yours is so beautifully coloured.

Do you have any favorite bird sighting in your life?
I just remember my vacation a couple of years ago in Norway, where I saw a Golden Eagle just a couple of meters above my head, and this big wave of adrenaline just rushed through my body...

Our woodpeckers are normal looking ones. Nothing to exciting about them other than their cuteness as babies. That pic isn't mine. Not sure where it originated it just came up in a search. But it is beautiful.

Favorite sightings...hmm...there was a baby barn owl on a stop sign by my house. It was the cutest little thing.

I've never seen a free flying Eagel

Pretty! Any idea what kind of bird it is, pookiepookie?

Visited the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center last year for two weeks (study trip), which is located near Washington DC, right at the Chesapeake bay. We found a nest of Bald Eagles there. So one study mate and I were just watching the nest through our binoculars, when we saw an Osprey and a Black Vulture fighting over something in the air, and the second they passed the nest, a Bald Eagle cut in on the fight. So then you had two huge birds fighting, and an even huger bird breaking up the fight. That was about the most exciting bird-related things I ever saw We were so psyched and hyperactive all day after that (yeah, biology students... )

And 'normal looking' peckers (black and white with a little red in the males?) are very stunning as well. I did spot a Northern Flicker in the woods while visiting the US though, so beautiful.

(Also not my own pic, unfortunately )

And wow, a baby barnowl I've never seen owls (except at the zoo, and once a short-eared owl on the side of a highway on a pole, but that went by so very fast), even though they've been my favorite animals since I was a kid.
