Thanks for the new thread, sorry it's a bit late I was out with my nephew at the go kart track!

Still have to find something for Mum for xMas.

Yes Prison Break is back Jan 14 for a few eps.

And I might be getting a new phone, JB HiFi is having a deal on the Motorola V3xx on a $30 plan, you get a bonus bluethooth car kit and GPS system for the car! I'm on a 30 plan (which just ended) so I get a shinny new phone, car kit and GPS and it costs me nothing more than I'm paying now!

TV to be all-digital by 2013
Article from: Herald Sun

December 19, 2007 12:00am

ALL Australian television sets will have to be digital within five years under the new Government's plan for viewers to make the switch from analogue across the country.

The new deadline comes as a Melbourne company has revealed it has produced the world's smallest digital set-top box to allow any TV set to receive digital.

Communications Minister Stephen Conroy says he has taken the first firm steps to ensure the switch-over to digital TV is completed by the end of 2013.

"We are moving quickly to maximise the benefits for all Australians and keep pace with the rest of the world," Senator Conroy said yesterday.

The switch-over was important for all Australians, he said, because it offered better picture and sound quality and a greater choice of programs.

Senator Conroy said setting a firm date for the switch-over gave industry the certainty it needed to promote digital TV.

In good news, an Aussie company has come up with the world's smallest set-top box -- and it costs only $59.

Melbourne's Wintal has developed the STB12V, which works with any TV to take digital programs.

A dual power supply also allows the pint-sized set-top to work with TVs in caravans and boats.

The number of Australians shifting from analog to digital TV is rising significantly. Consumers are on track to buy about one million LCD and plasma TVs, with the majority having a built-in digital set-top box.

But with an estimated 13 million to 15 million analogue tube TVs in service, stand-alone set-top boxes are in huge demand.

Aussies bought 400,000 set-top boxes last financial year -- that could climb by 50 per cent by July.

Senator Conroy has set up a switch-over taskforce to drive the change.

It will report back in the third quarter of 2008 with a comprehensive timetable.

The Government has also extended the starting date of digital-only transmission in metropolitan markets for a year from December 2008.

"This is clearly an impossible date for both viewers and industry," Senator Conroy said.

I'm off to work, later

I'm 100% digital already.

Maybe with some 15 million analogue TV sets maybe it's time to invest in companies selling digital units

ETA - damn ch10! they dumped journeyman to HD and I don't get HD for some reason. Great I'll have to *cough* it to see the others, even though it's reported to have been axed in the US!

This is why I hate free-to-air, at least on Austar they keep the show on till the end!

I was waiting to see Journeyman as well.

I thought Bones was ok tonight, for me it didn't give me the "omg" that Prison Break does.

Yeah I've seen the ads, they had something on ch10 news about HDTV starting and we get NOTHING. Right now only ch7 has a HDTV going, both ch9 and 10 have some shows some times but then goes back to the HD reel showing off how good HDTV is

Bones is good when you get into it, I wouldn't compare it to PB, it's like comparing ever other sitcom to Friends, just not on the same level. With all the promoting it's speaking of desperation from ch7 'come look at this great show'. I feel come mid-late Jan it will be gone again so enjoy it while you can.

On thing that annoys me about HDTV is unless you get an external box you can't record it, all current DVD/HDD recorders have SD not HD tuners.

As for Journeyman well I like it but I guess it's just another show that didn't make it in the US, the writers strike is not helping matter to work out if it was axed or just ran out of eps?

Road Less Travelled Blog

They are already calling HDTV the dumping grounds for shows, just look at what ch10 is putting there which it won't air on the main digital channel. Just put it there makes it look like it wasn't cancelled but it might as well be given then number of people who can actually access HDTV!
