This might be a dumb question but is there a reason Catherine didn’t direct the rest of the movies?

Answer:
That’s not a dumb question at all! Catherine Hardwicke was planning on directing the rest of the movies. But basically shortly after the release of the first Twilight movie, the film studio called her and said they wanted to release New Moon VERY quickly and needed her to shorten the budget down. So Catherine Hardwicke edited the script a bunch, cutting out action scenes and trying to make it a smaller budget. In the end, she decided not to direct the next Twilight film because she said it just would not be possible for her to make it in such a short amount of time since she currently was in the middle of a tour doing promotion for Twilight and there just was not enough time to make the movie in just a few short months since she wasn’t given any warning with such a short time span. She actually had it written into her contract for Twilight that she would get “dibs” to direct new moon and that they couldn’t make the film without offering it to her first, so a lot of people think they rushed her like that in order to move on to another director. They then offered it to Chris Weitz, who went on to direct New Moon.

There is a HUGE amount of discrimination against female directors in the film industry. Almost always female storylines are handed to male directors because people falsely believe that women are not capable of directing good movies. This is seen from the lack of nominations for female directors at award shows like the Oscars, or many not even given the chance to direct.

Anyway, fun fact- with the release of Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke ended up breaking the worldwide record for the highest amount of money earned for a film opening weekend by a female director.

How’s that for capable?

I’m also fairly certain that Chris got the money he wanted for the film as well going on location to Italy to do the scenes where Bella saves Edward.
