I think he did because I don't remember him afterward.

SBTB was in a simpler time. It was privileged white kids struggling with first world problems of vanity. Today's socioeconomic climate sees people as....well, people have sticks up their ass. Everyone complains about everything, everyone is offended by everything and people now shoot each other like it's the old west. SBTB would be considered racist and sexist by today's standards and wouldn't last at all. The only way to make anything modern with the series work is doing a special where they have a high school reunion...and then you're trampling on an idea that has been done with American Pie, that high school reunion movie with Lisa Kudrow (romy and michelle or something) and so many more.
SBTB will be loved forever by its fans and will enjoy success on dvd and in reruns (would be a huge hit on netflix) but it will unfortunately fade into obscurity because it didn't have the mature tones to allow it to connect to future generations. It's specific to the late 80s and early 90s and doesn't have timeless qualities. |
