doctorwho247: Matt Smith has admitted that he is “really jealous” about what Steven Moffat Has planned for Doctor Who Series 8. Speaking on a panel at Calgary Expo, Smith said: “I rang Steven Moffat up the other day and found out everything about the new series. It sounds really good! I was really jealous actually.” Smith also said that he experienced a slight regret of his decision to leave the show: “You never really think you’re going to leave and then it comes and you’re like ‘Oh no. What am I doing? Why have I left?’ There’s a lot of that.” Doctor Who Series 8 will air later in 2014 on BBC One. __________________

The BBC have said they’re “delighted” and “thrilled” with Peter Capaldi’s Doctor. Five episodes of Doctor Who Series 8 have so far been filmed and according to a source on the show, Capaldi is on course to “make one of the best Doctors ever”. "He is his own man – very distinctive," said the source. It has also been said that the chemistry between Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman is “sizzling”. “He is the oldest Doctor and there is a sense he is more distanced from his assistant, more of a mystery. He is perhaps less a mate, and someone she looks up to. She has to try and gauge him – but dramatically it’s very satisfying and onscreen they work very well together.” Capaldi’s performance is also thought to have echoes of other Doctors, especially Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor, but he is also a “modern age” Doctor. The source added: “There is a real buzz about this Doctor. And of course the monsters are great.” According to the Radio Times, Capaldi’s Doctor is starting from “the bottom up” with a clean slate of stories and little reference to previous incarnations. It’s a Green Light for Karen Gillan’s ABC Series ‘Selfie’  Karen Gillan and John Cho in ‘Selfie’ (Pic: ABC) We’re not psychic, yesterday’s post about where the actors and actresses of Doctor Who can be found this summer was not created with any particular news in mind. It’s just a glorious coincidence. But the good news for Karen Gillan fans is that her ABC pilot Selfie has been commissioned for a full series, according to Deadline. Written by Suburgatory’s Emily Kapnek, Selfie is the story of a social media addict called Eliza Dooley (and as it’s Karen playing the part, we can indeed confirm, with Pygmalion pun-wincing accuracy, that the answer to the question “is Eliza Dooley tall?” is yes) who wants to try and connect with people in a more meaningful way after becoming the subject of a humiliating, and very popular, viral video. She is aided in her quest by a marketing expert named Henry (played by John Cho) , who tries to keep her on the straight and narrow, and give her online image a complete makeover. The show also stars David Harewood (Homeland), Tim Peper (Conviction), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Ghost the Musical) and Allyn Rachel (Million Dollar Arm). Doctor Who Series 8 to premiere in July 'Doctor Who's' next season is apparently going to premiere in July, according to Ben Wheatley, the English director who is overseeing Peter Capaldi's first two episodes. Wheatley told Uproxx, "I've got two more weeks shooting 'Doctor Who,' which hopefully is going to go in July." Of course, this is far from a concrete confirmation, but it certainly suggests that the BBC plan to get the beloved sci-fi behemoth's eighth season of its modern incarnation on the small screen in the summer. It was previously believed that 'Doctor Who' would only return in either August or September, but Whovians will be crossing their fingers and toes that Wheatley's assertion is right. DoctorWhoTv.co.uk (via KPopStarz.com) recently reported that season 8 wouldn't be split into two parts, and all of its 13 episodes will instead run continuously. Earlier today it was also revealed that, regardless of the season's premiere, Matt Smith doesn't want Capaldi to share scenes with Alex Kingston's River Song. "I'm really possessive over Alex [Kingston]. I said this to Steven [Moffat]. I was like, 'Listen, just don't! Just not Alex. Anyone else, but don't give [Capaldi] River,'" explained Smith to a Q&A at the New Orleans Comic Con. However, Smith conceded that he doesn't have much say in the matter, noting, "But Peter is the Doctor now so hey, what can I do? But I am really proud of the fact that Alex was part of number Eleven's life. My wife!" It's OK Matt, I'm sure that if she ends up kissing Capaldi, she'll really be thinking of you throughout the whole ordeal. __________________
