Real life has put me quite a ways behind in terms of reviewing/watching Series 7, so in order to get back on track, I'm going to just rattle off some numerical ratings (and a blurb or two)for The Power of Three through Hide.
  • The Power of Three: 3.7 (so much better than Dinosaurs on a Spaceship)
  • The Angels Take Manhattan: 4.7 (nice send-off for Amy and Rory, and Moffatt's best use of the Weeping Angels)
  • The Snowmen/The Bells of Saint John: 4.6 (it was fun to see Vastra, Jenny, and Strax again, and I liked the use of the Great Intelligence and the paired introduction of two versions of Clara)
  • The Rings of Akhaten: 3.8 (nice first official adventure for Clara and a fun parallel to The End of the World and The Beast Below)
  • Cold War: 4.5 (Fun way to introduce the Ice Warriors into Modern Who, and a nice use of Clara)
  • Hide: 4.8 (very reminiscent of It Takes You Away, one of my favorite episodes from Series 11, with an intriguing deepening of the mystery surrounding Clara)

Hopefully i won't suffer any more setbacks and will be able to post full reviews for the final 6 episodes of the Eleventh Doctor's Era.

Because I didn't have to wait before diving into Clara's introduction, it didn't feel like there was any separation between the first half of Series 7 and the second half.

It's great seeing Matt on another successful show after his time at The Crown.

It turns out that I'd fallen further behind than I realized, so it's unfortunately back to numerical ratings for Matt Smith's final 6 episodes.
  • Journey to the Center of the TARDIS: 4.8 (fun story that calls back to the 'base under siege' trope - while also evoking parallels to Carnival of Monsters, The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, and 42 - and furthers Clara's story)
  • The Crimson Horror: 4.8 (I really liked this one; it's a fun Pseudo-Historical adventure that brings back Vastra, Jenny, and [unfortunately] Strax, furthers Clara's arc, and presents a new and interesting villain that it would be cool to see somehow return)
  • Nightmare in Silver: 4.9 (I'd have to check, but this might be the Cyberman story that I've rated the highest in the history of the show; I also love Warwick Davis and the fact that The Doctor actually makes kids his official Companions for the first time since Adric and Nyssa were traveling with his 5th incarnation)
  • The Name of the Doctor/The Day of the Doctor/The Time of the Doctor: 4.6 (The "...of the Doctor" naming convention implies that this is supposed to be a 3-part story, but that doesn't really bear out in execution, and so each part individually loses a full point; I also deducted an additional full point because Eleven's regeneration was underwhelming to me)

Before I move on to the Twelfth Doctor's Era, I did want to offer a few parting thoughts about Eleven. He doesn't surpass Six or Thirteen in terms of overall awesomeness, but I did really like the ways in which his personality blended elements of the Second and Seventh Doctors. I also ended up liking all 7 of his official Companions, and can't wait to see how Clara adjusts to his new regeneration.
